The company continues to invest heavily in its product portfolio and successfully solidifies its leadership role in the electric truck market.
(Ismaning) The total sales of Volvo trucks saw a slight increase compared to the previous year with a record sales figure of 145,395 vehicles (2022: 145,195 units), with the leading markets being the USA, Brazil, and the UK. In 2023, the company also maintained its overall market shares worldwide at a high level.
“I am really proud of our performance in 2023, which we can register as another record year! This is clear evidence that our customers appreciate the fuel efficiency as well as the safety and uptime of our trucks,” says Roger Alm, President of Volvo Trucks.
Electric Drive on the Rise
Volvo Trucks was able to maintain its strong position in the electric truck market with a total of 1,977 vehicles delivered worldwide in 2023. This represents an increase of 256% compared to the previous year. Volvo now holds a market share of 47.2% (32.3% in 2022) in the European market for heavy electric commercial vehicles. Volvo Trucks has recently expanded its range of electric vehicles with two new models: the new Volvo FH Aero Electric and the Volvo FM Low Entry, the company’s very first model developed exclusively for electric drive. With this, Volvo now offers a total of eight electric models in its truck lineup, designed to handle a wide range of tasks.
“With our recent introductions to the market, we are strengthening our leading position in the industry. Our electric trucks are in serial production and are in operation, contributing day by day to reducing emissions for our customers’ fleets,” explains Roger Alm.
Since 2019, Volvo Trucks has supplied customers in 45 countries across six continents with electric trucks. In 2023, Volvo began delivering the first electric heavy trucks to Latin America, which went to customers in Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. Volvo is also the first manufacturer to sell its battery-powered electric trucks to Morocco, South Korea, and Malaysia.
Largest Product Launch Ever
At the beginning of 2024, Volvo made its largest product renewal to date and launched new trucks worldwide. The brand-new Volvo VNL for long-distance transport in the North American market is based on a completely new platform that offers approximately 10%* lower fuel consumption compared to the previous generation and a range of new safety features. This new platform can be adapted for use with various renewable fuels as well as for battery-electric vehicles.
Four Different Options for Powertrains
For Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia, the Volvo FH model has been introduced in a new FH Aero version with four different options for powertrains, including electric motors and those powered by renewable fuels. Thanks to improved aerodynamics and new technologies, this model series offers up to 5% more efficient fuel usage compared to the regular Volvo FH model.
