Mileage of Toll Trucks Increased in February

The mileage of toll trucks with at least four axles on federal highways increased by 1.5% in February 2024 compared to January 2024, adjusted for calendar and seasonality. According to the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the calendar-adjusted truck toll mileage index was 0.8% below the level of the previous year, February 2023.

In addition to the monthly index, an experimental daily truck toll mileage index for Germany is published. The daily values are part of the indicator set of the “Economic Pulse Meter” in the Dashboard Germany (www.dashboard-deutschland.de), along with other daily available economic indicators. This tool allows various statistics and characteristics to be clearly compared in a graphic. The combination of high-frequency indicators enables the observation of economic development almost in real-time.

Adjustment of the Toll Indices to the Base Year 2021

Starting with the reporting month of February 2024, the monthly indices for the toll indices will be adjusted from the previously applicable base year 2015 to the new base year 2021. From the reporting month of February 2024, the truck toll mileage index will no longer represent the ratio of mileage to the average of the year 2015, but to that of the year 2021. The short designation of the base year used in tables and graphics will accordingly change from “2015 = 100” to “2021 = 100”.
