22. March 2024Gebrüder Weiss is once again calling for its international cycling campaign “GWcycles” this year. Starting from March 25, cycling enthusiasts around the world will be pedaling hard again. The goal of this sporting competition is set high for 2024: to cycle the distance to the moon and back. The international participants aim to cover the 768,800 kilometers distance by September 30.
(Lauterach) As in previous years, GWcycles combines the sporting challenge with environmental protection: The international transport company will plant an additional 7,000 trees in Nicaragua for the kilometers cycled. In the two previous competitions, a total of 13,000 trees were already planted in Togo and Nicaragua. With the company forests, Gebrüder Weiss is making an important and active contribution to a climate-friendly future.
“At Gebrüder Weiss, we are convinced of sustainable mobility and, as a global logistics company, we are excited to move a lot together,” sums up Frank Haas, Head of Communication at Gebrüder Weiss, the motivation and goals of GWcycles. “With their enjoyment of movement and the awareness of actively contributing to environmental protection by cycling, our cycling community has achieved impressive results year after year. We are looking forward to this year’s competition.”
After last year’s campaign ended with the surprising success of over 15 circumnavigations of the Earth, 2024 challenges participants with the distance to the moon and back. As a grand prize, Gebrüder Weiss will award a gravel bike among the top 300 cyclists, as well as other attractive prizes for seven different challenges. Everyone is welcome to participate in the competition. The kilometers cycled will be recorded and added up using a cycling app.
