Liebherr MCCtec Delivers Crane to Hartel Terminal of Marcor
Mar 22, 2024 at 6:34 PMThis team withstands any storm: Rhenus Offshore Logistics and XERVON Wind have been working hand in hand for several years to ensure the service and maintenance of offshore wind farms in the North and Baltic Seas. These facilities provide hundreds of thousands of households with climate-friendly electricity every year.
(Bremen/Cologne) XERVON Wind, as an Independent Service Provider, takes on all important areas of work relevant to offshore wind farms – from inspection and maintenance to repairs and performance-enhancing retrofits. Meanwhile, Rhenus Offshore Logistics is responsible for complete logistics services such as transport to and from the ports, crew transfers, chartering, or maritime coordination. Unlike onshore wind farms, offshore locations face different challenges. All equipment and components, as well as the necessary personnel, must be transported by ship to the wind energy plants and platforms.
Rhenus Offshore Logistics uses its many years of expertise to comprehensively support XERVON Wind. “We are pleased to continuously intensify our very good collaboration with XERVON Wind. Thanks to our complementary competencies and services, we offer plant operators a complete package that is not only perfectly tailored to the special offshore requirements but is also rarely found in this form,” explains Björn Wittek, Managing Director of Rhenus Offshore Logistics.
As part of the cooperation, Rhenus is also responsible for chartering the ship on which the technicians live and work during their deployment. A short-term exchange of the already provided ship and the associated re-mobilization is a challenge that the team from Rhenus Offshore Logistics has managed effortlessly due to years of experience. A so-called walk-to-work vessel is used, which, thanks to its wave-compensating gangway system, safely, stably, and efficiently brings the crew to their offshore workplace and back, even under the most difficult conditions.
The Base Port is Cuxport in Cuxhaven
The strategically well-located Cuxport terminal of Rhenus Offshore Logistics in Cuxhaven serves again as the base port, which is now the leading offshore wind port in Germany. “Looking to the future, expanding the port infrastructure for offshore projects in other seaports, especially in Cuxhaven at berths 5 to 7, is essential. There is still much to be done to create the necessary capacities. We are grateful for the good cooperation with Rhenus Offshore Logistics, whose excellent infrastructure in the Cuxhaven port makes these projects possible,” says Maik Schlapmann, Managing Director of XERVON Wind.
