2. April 2024Alltron distributes DJI’s cargo drone “FlyCart 30” in Switzerland
Alltron has received the contract from DJI, the world market leader in industrially manufactured multicopters, for the Swiss distribution of the cargo drone “FlyCart 30”. The 3.2-meter-wide FlyCart 30 features a quad-rotor with eight propellers and dual flight batteries in a redundant configuration. The payload can be transported via a loading box with automatic weight distribution optimization or a winch with emergency cable drop.
(Mägenwil) For better flight stability and higher safety, the “FlyCart 30” is equipped with systems such as intelligent obstacle avoidance via optical and radar systems, a built-in parachute, an ADS-B receiver for aircraft position data, and augmented reality projection. The pilot operates the system – remotely “Beyond Visual Line of Sight” – on a programmed route. Of course, direct visual flight can also be conducted via the remote control.
Regulated Operation
The DJI FlyCart 30 can transport a payload of up to 30 kilograms over a distance of up to 16 kilometers under optimal conditions. In China, for example, it is used for deliveries from the mainland to cargo ships operating on the Yangtze River, replacing boat transports or helicopter flights. Alltron envisions drone operations in the Swiss Alps to reach remote construction sites, mountain huts, or power generation facilities. Deployments in disaster situations to supply cut-off areas are also conceivable. The operation of such cargo drones is, of course, strictly regulated and requires approval. As the Aargau distributor explains, it not only provides the drone solution but also plans – in collaboration with a specialist for safety and legal compliance for drone flights – to offer corresponding support services to guide interested partners through the “Specific Operations Risk Assessment” approval procedures for drone operations. A feasibility study has confirmed the project’s chances of success, and there are already initial interested parties for transport applications of drones, according to sources from Mägenwil.
Expansion of Collaboration
Alltron has been collaborating with DJI Enterprise at the distribution level since 2020 and has already sold a four-digit number of drones for professional/industrial use. This successful collaboration also forms the basis for Alltron to win the tender for the distribution of DJI’s new delivery drones. “We thank DJI Enterprise for the trust that partners are well supported by Alltron in realizing safe, legally compliant, and successful drone operations,” says Andrea Savoca, Head of ICT Solutions at Alltron. The market niche is not particularly large, but it is quite interesting, Savoca responds to the question of whether it is economically worthwhile for Alltron. Unlike custom-made solutions, the FlyCart 30 is a virtually ready-to-use solution on a technical level, according to Savoca. Compared to small cargo flights by helicopter, acquisition and operating costs are relatively low, and thanks to battery operation, drone operations are virtually emission-free, and the noise level is also more pleasant than that of a helicopter.
