ASD Supports EUROTRANSPHARMA in Market Entry
May 28, 2024 at 7:13 PMTX Logistik AB has launched a new intermodal connection between Gothenburg, Eskilstuna, and Umeå. The subsidiary of the German TX Logistik AG, which is part of Mercitalia Logistics (FS Italiane Group), is further expanding and strengthening its network in Sweden.
The new route will operate with two round trips per week, each carrying 32 loading units per train. In addition to craneable trailers of all kinds, non-craneable semi-trailers can also be quickly and easily loaded onto the train using the TX handling system Nikrasa, without the need to change existing standards at the terminals, on the wagons, or on the tracks. A corresponding number of Nikrasa plates is available. TX Logistik provides all services for the new connection independently, which operates as an open train system and is already utilized by well-known freight forwarders.
For the journey from the combined terminal Arken in the port of Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast to the Eskilstuna combined terminal (west of Stockholm), the intermodal train takes about six hours. After transferring the required trailers there and picking up new units, it continues to Umeå in the north, where the local combined terminal is reached after approximately 14 hours of travel time. As the only freight railway so far, TX Logistik uses the Botniabahn route along the Swedish east coast, which can be traversed by freight trains at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. This is made possible because TX Logistik employs modern ETCS locomotives on the line equipped with the European Train Control System.
Round Trips with Food
The new connection strengthens TX Logistik’s network within Sweden. The company is already one of the most important providers of intermodal rail freight transport there. For example, an open train system operates seven times a week on the route between Trelleborg, Malmö, and Eskilstuna. For the retail chain Coop, TX Logistik transports food weekly in ten round trips between Kjula (near Eskilstuna) and Malmö, and for Lkw Walter, a full train connection is operated as a Company Train with three weekly round trips between Trelleborg and Eskilstuna. This service is complemented by traction services for the Scandinavian section of European TX routes.
