Kukla Group Expands Management in the Holding
30. May 2024Topping-out ceremony for a new office building on Ost-West-Straße in the Rostock Overseas Port. At the foot of Pier II, in close proximity to the office buildings of the port operator ROSTOCK PORT and the handling company Euroports, a six-story building with 60 office spaces and a usable area of 2,520 square meters will be constructed by the end of 2025.
(Rostock) “ROSTOCK PORT is investing several million euros as the builder to create modern facilities for port companies and authorities and to concentrate office locations in the port area,” says Jens A. Scharner, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT GmbH. The aging and scattered office buildings in the port will be demolished after the companies move into the new building, and the vacated areas will be used for logistical purposes and as expansion and settlement areas. “The internal port development, utilizing all spatial possibilities, remains our top priority to provide existing and prospective companies with offers for successful operations. For the benefit of the port, city, region, and country,” adds Jens A. Scharner.
For the municipality as the main shareholder of ROSTOCK PORT, Dr. Chris von Wrycz Rekowski, first deputy of the mayor, attended the small celebration and expressed his joy: “The overseas port is and remains the economic heart of our city. And of course, we strive to provide the companies operating here with the best possible conditions – not only directly at the quay edge but also in appropriate business premises. At the same time, we are creating space for new developments. However, the fact that we are making smaller internal space potentials usable with this new building cannot disguise how urgently a large-scale port expansion is needed.”

Photovoltaic System on the Roof
The new office building at Ost-West-Straße 31 will be equipped with a photovoltaic system to generate electricity for its own use and will be connected to the district heating network. The planning and construction contracts that have been tendered so far will be executed by regional companies such as the Rostock architectural firm buttler architekten GmbH, Groth & Co GmbH from Rostock, and Hoch-, Dach- und Fassadenbau GmbH from Kemnitz near Greifswald.
Second Office Building for the Federal Police
In parallel, ROSTOCK PORT is constructing a second office building that will be used by the Federal Police starting in mid-2025. At the height of the harbor basin B, south of Ost-West-Straße, a three-story new building with a usable area of 1,220 square meters is being constructed behind the office complex already renovated by ROSTOCK PORT, which also houses the customs office. The old office location of the Federal Police at the logistics area of the car terminal can also be demolished after the move is completed.
