Arvato Launches Palletizing Robot in Venlo
1. June 2024
Construction Begins at Panattoni Park Halle/Saale North
1. June 2024The transition to software integration in warehouse operations does not have to be expensive or complex. On the contrary. A gradual introduction often begins with simple solutions that make a noticeable difference in daily operations. One such solution is offered by Ferag: it replaces manual Excel lists without compromising existing processes. An important aspect is the flexibility and scalability regarding warehouse and picking processes and expansion, as provided by the UCS (Unified Control System) ferag.doWarehouse and the storage lift ferag.starlift.
(Hinwil) Ferag solutions grow with the company’s requirements and can be easily expanded as the warehouse grows or as needs change. They can also operate independently or in combination with existing processes and products. But together, they are unbeatable.
The ferag.starlift allows for space-saving and efficient storage of goods. Its vertical design optimally utilizes the available space and offers high storage capacity in a limited area. With a footprint starting at just 3 m², a load capacity of up to 2,500 kg per shelf, and a lifting speed of up to 2.5 m/s, the Starlift is a powerful solution for warehouses of all sizes. A storage lift is used in various areas such as storage and provision of items of all kinds, picking, replenishment of tools and spare parts, storage of medical and pharmaceutical products, sensitive and expensive goods, or use in office environments and cold storage.
ferag.doWarehouse is the perfect solution for easily and efficiently transitioning to a demanding warehouse management solution. The software offers seamless integration with the Starlift (or other existing hardware) and enables efficient inventory management. It allows for real-time tracking of inventory, monitoring of orders, and efficient control of warehouse movements. This reduces complexity and improves data accuracy. ferag.doWarehouse provides the functionality of a WMS (Warehouse Management System) while managing processes and providing information on resource efficiency and transparency in the warehouse. Advanced analytics allow for a focus on issues, inefficiencies, and bottlenecks to maximize efficiency in the warehouse. And the best part: with ferag.doWarehouse, established processes do not need to be adapted to the software.
The efficient use of (existing) resources and optimized workflows are at the heart of many warehouse operations. The advantages of this intelligent, resource-saving, and scalable combination are evident through three concrete application examples.
Automated Replenishment in Production
In a production facility with various manufacturing lines, ferag.starlift enables efficient management of small parts, tools, and materials. ferag.doWarehouse continuously monitors material requirements in real-time. As soon as a production order is pending or the inventory falls below a certain threshold, the software automatically triggers a replenishment delivery. The automated replenishment is carried out by the storage lift, which transports the required material from the storage area to the picking station. There, the employee retrieves the parts and uses them directly in production or forwards them. The software updates the inventory and logs the transaction for seamless tracking.
The goods-to-person principle enables short distances, which increases picking performance. At the same time, the vertical storage lift saves valuable floor space. The software ensures error-free picking and minimizes inventory discrepancies. Additionally, individually adjustable working heights and safety systems create an ergonomic working environment, which increases employee satisfaction and reduces absenteeism due to illness.
Automated Goods Receipt with Storage Lift and Software
In the goods receipt area, incoming deliveries are received. The incoming goods are or will be labeled with barcodes or RFID tags. Employees perform a quality control check, and if necessary, the items are verified based on the recorded data, then scanned and stored in the ferag.starlift. The software communicates seamlessly with the overarching ERP system to transfer information about the received goods, including storage location. Automatically generated notifications are sent to the responsible departments (e.g., warehouse, purchasing), and the goods can now be used for production, sales, or storage.
In the goods dispatch area, finished products, spare parts, components, or orders are prepared for shipping. The software ferag.doWarehouse processes the shipping orders from the ERP system. Based on the orders, the required items are selected for picking. The storage lift transports the needed items to the picking station. Employees retrieve the goods according to the shipping orders. After retrieval, the goods are packaged and labeled with shipping labels (automatically generated if necessary). The software updates the inventory and logs the transaction.
Accelerated Goods In- and Outflow
The automated process accelerates the goods in- and outflow and reduces manual work steps. The software minimizes errors in data capture, inventory management, picking, and labeling, while every step of the process is traceable and the inventory is updated in real-time. Compared to manual shelving and Excel-based processes, this solution offers a significant increase in productivity and greater flexibility for future growth.
