PTV Logistics Offers Route Planning Tool for the Olympics in Paris
11. June 2024The Open Source Business Alliance and the Open Logistics Foundation will collaborate more closely in the future. Recently, the two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The cooperation aims to promote the use of open source in the fields of business and industry. A newly established task force “Business and Industry” on the side of the Open Source Business Alliance will drive the collaboration for digital sovereignty and open standards with the Open Logistics Foundation.
(Dortmund/Berlin) The Open Source Business Alliance (OSBA) represents over 200 member companies of the open-source economy. Until now, the focus of the Open Source Business Alliance has been heavily on collaboration with administration and political decision-makers to promote the digital sovereignty of administration and business, among other things, through the use of open-source software. The organization’s focus is increasingly expanding to direct collaboration with business and industry. For this purpose, a dedicated task force has been established. In particular, it will be in regular contact with the Open Logistics Foundation in the future.
As an independent and neutral organization, the Open Logistics Foundation is dedicated to the development of openly available open-source solutions at the commodity level. The non-profit organization and its members work together to launch non-competitively differentiating open-source projects for logistics.
Advancing the Visibility of Open Source in Business and Industry
The common goal of the two organizations is to promote the exchange on digital sovereignty and open source – gladly in intensive exchange with other business and industry associations. “Topics such as the Cyber Resilience Act, procurement of open source, and the tax assessment of open source and corporate contributions are always relevant to and have an impact on our activities and those of our members. Through collaboration, we can benefit from the expertise, networking, and political work of the Open Source Business Alliance,” explains Andreas Nettsträter, CEO of the Open Logistics Foundation. “Additionally, the cooperation allows us to understand the motivations that industry companies cite for using open source and what reservations they may have. Here, the Open Source Business Alliance offers us important insights.”
Win-Win Situation for Open Source
“Together with the Open Logistics Foundation, we can promote the increased use of open source in business and industry and make the successes of open source in these areas visible. We see clear synergy potentials and a win-win situation for the topic of open source,” emphasizes Lothar Becker, board member of the Open Source Business Alliance.
