Transporeon: Winner of the Austrian Logistics Award 2024
11. June 2024PTV Logistics announces the availability of its PTV OptiFlow package as well as a free tool for calculating and simulating routes, which supports delivery companies in planning their deliveries in Paris and the surrounding area during the 2024 Olympic Games. Through the PTV Developer Platform, this tool enables the calculation and dynamic adjustment of optimal delivery routes, taking into account the current traffic restrictions of the day.
(Karlsruhe/Paris) In a few months, France will host the Olympic Games, followed by the Paralympic Games starting on August 28. From July 1 to September 15, traffic routes in Paris and its suburbs will be partially or completely closed due to sporting events. These traffic disruptions will complicate deliveries, as Sébastien Beolet, Head of Software Development at PTV Logistics, explains: “Under normal circumstances, traffic in the Île-de-France region is already a challenge for companies delivering there. Due to the sporting events during the Olympic Games, which will take place at numerous locations, 185 km of lanes will be reserved exclusively for accredited vehicles: emergency services, public transport, taxis, security forces, and the organizing committee, to ensure their smooth transit during the games. If companies do not prepare for these additional restrictions, many will not be able to fulfill their deliveries within the contractual deadlines.”
The free route simulator from PTV Logistics combines several APIs:
- Data API for accessing scenarios that model Olympic lanes
- Routing API for route calculations within this scenario
- Vector Maps API for map representation
The digital tool is based on years of expertise from PTV Logistics in developing APIs and thus represents more than just a mapping platform for visualizing restricted routes. It allows users to estimate the potential impacts of the Olympic lanes on a specific route and dynamically suggests alternative routes to avoid disruptions. The APIs can be integrated into business applications from shippers, transport companies, and software manufacturers in the market (e.g., ERP, TMS, DMS, FMS), thereby multiplying their potential. The route simulator can also be integrated into partner simulators and offered to their customers for the Olympic Games.
“Traffic visualization for the Olympic Games is the perfect illustration of our 40 years of expertise in developing algorithms for transport and logistics. This supports companies in planning with foresight and ensuring timely deliveries even during this international event,” Beolet further stated.
During the Olympic Games, daily route interruptions are expected, posing a challenge for transport companies in maintaining a punctual and reliable service. PTV OptiFlow, the state-of-the-art route optimization software, includes detailed maps for each day of the Olympic Games, allowing companies not only to identify alternative solutions with the free route simulator but also to optimize their deliveries with PTV OptiFlow.
Route Optimization Without Complex Integrations
