July 2024DHL, the official founding and logistics partner of Formula E, celebrates ten years of collaboration and brings the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship to London for the final stage of the 2023/24 season. From the very beginning, DHL has played a crucial role in realizing the world’s first fully electric racing series. Since its inception in 2013 and the first race in Beijing in 2014, DHL has supported Formula E in 132 races held in 33 cities across 24 countries.
(Bonn) With 40 years of experience in international motorsport, DHL has significantly contributed to making the thrill of racing accessible to 400 million fans worldwide while also raising awareness of the importance of sustainability in cities around the globe.
To celebrate the anniversary, Formula E will present a first-generation Formula E race car with a custom DHL livery today. The design features abstract red lines inspired by the well-known DHL branding, as well as a green leaf symbolizing sustainability. The vehicle’s branding highlights key milestones of the partnership, showcasing DHL’s contribution to motorsport and the realization of global races.
With multimodal transport solutions by land and sea, DHL ensures maximum efficiency. Furthermore, Formula E has significantly reduced its greenhouse gas emissions over the last three seasons by utilizing biofuels for road and sea transport. This year, for the first time, DHL’s GoGreen-Plus service, which employs sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), was used for two important stages of Formula E.
Arjan Sissing, Head of Global Brand Marketing at DHL Group, says: “That DHL and Formula E can celebrate the tenth joint racing season in London this year is a significant milestone for this partnership, which began a year before the first race in the concept phase. Over the last ten years, so much has happened – from the growing fan base to vehicle innovations and increasingly sustainable practices in motorsport. We are proud to have accompanied the success story of Formula E as a founding partner since its inception while remaining true to our commitment to a sustainable future for the sport and motorsport logistics.”
With the London E-Prix 2024 on July 20 and 21, Season 10 will conclude, during which DHL has covered over 98,000 kilometers for 16 races at ten famous venues. In total, DHL has transported around 400 tons of valuable cargo per race this season, including race cars, batteries, charging units, transmission equipment, and marketing and hospitality gear.
A Lot of Hard Work and Innovation
Julia Pallé, Sustainability Director of Formula E, adds: “After eleven years of close collaboration with DHL and ten joint racing seasons, I know how much hard work and innovation are required to make our championship as sustainable as possible. This important milestone highlights DHL’s pioneering role in the continuous development of new technologies, systems, and infrastructure as the foundation for industry-leading solutions that benefit not only Formula E itself but also its entire logistics chain. I look forward to continuing this groundbreaking collaboration.”
