Jul 20, 2024 at 8:30 PMPath safety and clear traffic signage on company premises are important factors for efficient workflows and, above all, workplace safety for employees and visitors. Where many trucks, vans, forklifts, pedestrians, and even bicycles are moving in a compressed space, attention is especially required, just like in public road traffic. To further maximize path safety with simple methods, Euro Industry has compiled some central tools as recommendations.
(Stuttgart) At the beginning of path safety is path certainty. This means that there must be certainty about the applicable traffic rules as soon as one enters a company premises. Clear signage of all areas is also part of this topic. In particular, external visitors such as suppliers can find their way more quickly, avoiding dangerous and unnecessary stops and maneuvers.
Routes for driving or walking are best marked with painted road markings or self-adhesive, weather-resistant signal tapes. Euro Industry also offers these in its range. The yellow-black signal-colored adhesive tapes adhere to many surfaces and are also available with an anti-slip coating. For example, areas where pedestrians should stop and gain a special overview can be clearly marked.
The classic and still best tool for unclear corners with crossing traffic are traffic mirrors. These come in various designs and sizes, and it is definitely advisable to use those that, due to their design, do not allow the mirror surface to freeze. This way, unclear corners and intersections remain clear at any time of the year.
Mobile Barrier Posts and Barrier Tapes
Temporary obstacles or restricted areas or danger zones can be best secured with mobile barrier posts and barrier tapes or chains. For temporary construction sites, parked equipment, or pallets, this is a simple, useful, and cost-effective way of marking.
If cables and hoses are temporarily or permanently lying over the roadway, cable bridges provide relief. These cable bridges, as offered by Euro Industry in various designs, have the capability to protect one or more hoses or thick cables from being driven over. Good cable bridges are slip-resistant and stay in position, are also designed for strong sub-zero temperatures, and can withstand loads of up to 40 tons, depending on their design.
Adhering to the given speed is actually a matter of common sense. Not infrequently, this is knowingly or unknowingly ignored. To slow down vehicle operators, additional plastic speed bumps are best suited. These are conspicuous with their yellow-black signal colors and can withstand the weight of loaded trucks. Especially in unclear areas, pedestrian crossings, or sensitive danger zones on a factory premises, these speed bumps should always be used. Euro Industry offers speed bumps in two different heights for different crossing speeds. The 5 cm high bump can be crossed at around 20 km/h, while the 7.5 cm high bump can only be crossed at a maximum of 10 km/h.
To secure sensitive areas and narrow obstacles, such as pipelines or columns, Euro Industry recommends a steel impact protection. These spots are often overlooked during maneuvering large vehicles. A solid steel impact protection, firmly anchored in the ground, absorbs the impact in such cases and can prevent greater damage to structures.
Crash Stops are Important
Crash stops for limiting parking spaces are particularly important when there are protruding elements at the end of the parking lot that classic reverse sensors of vehicles do not detect or when a drop follows behind the parking lot. Also, to clearly distinguish parking spaces from sidewalks, solid crash stops made of hard rubber are very helpful. This way, the tires stop at the rubber boundary at the latest and effectively prevent damage to vehicles or facades.
