For the Leipzig plant for low-voltage switchgear of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, the E-Truck handles transports within a radius of 100 kilometers, covering an average of 250 kilometers daily. The emissions-free truck, charged at the Leipzig Siemens plant, uses electricity that is generated 100 percent from renewable sources. Over the course of a year, this results in approximately 60,000 kilometers of transport distance being covered emissions-free.
(Leipzig) Gruber Logistics and Siemens AG have a long-standing partnership that has always focused on carrying out emissions-reduced transports. For the already established route between Berlin and Frankfurt am Main, Siemens uses a Gruber Logistics LNG truck. A truck from the South Tyrolean company, powered by Bio-LNG, is used on the route between Gütersloh and the Hessian metropolis. With the new, fully electrically operated vehicle at the Siemens plant in Leipzig and its surroundings, transport is now not only emissions-reduced but emissions-free for the first time.
“The implementation of the electric truck for the Leipzig Siemens plant sets a new standard for resource-saving logistics. To further develop sustainable transport solutions in the industry, it is essential to have a partner like Siemens by our side, who shares our innovative strength and environmental responsibility,” says Felix Kunath, Executive Director Business Unit Full Truck Load at Gruber Logistics.
Furthermore, Felix Kunath adds, Gruber Logistics pursues a sustainability strategy that focuses on the use of alternative fuels such as B100, HVO, or Bio-LNG. Currently, the logistics provider uses alternative fuels for 40 percent of its transports. The company also increasingly relies on multimodal solutions – about 30 percent of transports are shifted to rail – and achieves a so-called load saturation of 95 percent for LTL shipments through network and freight optimization.
Made a Step Forward
The logistics manager at the Siemens plant in Leipzig, Martin Fricke, adds: “We are pleased to have made another step forward in our sustainability strategy and are proud to be able to offer solutions for e-mobility as a manufacturer of low-voltage switchgear.”
