24. September 2024TIMOCON presents an assessment of its presentation at the IAA Transportation. The transport industry faces significant challenges: bottlenecks in supply chains, new regulations, and a shortage of qualified drivers are hindering the smooth flow of goods. Furthermore, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, over 37 percent of road freight transport in Germany consists of empty trips.
(Erkrath) “These capacities need to be utilized as efficiently as possible with the help of digital tools while reducing manual effort,” emphasizes Gunnar Gburek, Head of Business Affairs at TIMOCOM at the IAA Transportation 2024 in Hanover. Artificial intelligence will play a crucial role in this process in the future.
Road Freight Marketplace: Comprehensive Digital Solutions
TIMOCOM offers a range of services through the Road Freight Marketplace that enable transport companies to digitize and streamline their processes: from live shipment tracking to the closed freight exchange and the business partner check, the Road Freight Marketplace consolidates various digital solutions to optimally deploy and utilize available resources. By using the business partner check with the help of AI and interfaces to databases as well as the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM), documents can be verified for authenticity and validity, which supports compliance with regulations such as the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). This assists transport companies and dispatchers in fulfilling their commercial due diligence obligations. “The service creates more transparency and security in collaboration in road freight transport right from the selection of the business partner,” explains Gunnar Gburek.
AI Use for Automatic Quotation Generation
The topic of artificial intelligence (AI) is not just a current trend, but a technology that TIMOCOM is already using and continuously developing. With a new AI integration, TIMOCOM users can transfer a freight offer with just a few clicks. The transport order, which may be in PDF format, simply needs to be marked and copied. Using the copy-paste method, TIMOCOM AI recognizes the correct fields when creating a new offer in the marketplace and fills them in automatically. After a brief review, the freight offer is quickly and efficiently created. “By using TIMOCOM AI, we can significantly simplify time-consuming routine tasks such as document verification and freight offer creation. This not only saves valuable time but also reduces errors and allows employees to focus on their core tasks,” explains David Moog, Strategic Product Manager at TIMOCOM.
Challenges and New Ways of Collaboration in the Transport Sector
The experts from the transport industry as well as from trade and industry agreed during the joint discussions at the TIMOCOM booth at the fair that the capacity shortage and new regulations have an impact on collaboration in the transport sector. More efficient and digitally supported solutions are urgently needed to remain competitive. One thing became particularly clear in the individual discussions: bottlenecks in driver recruitment, increased sustainability requirements, and the growing complexity of compliance regulations are currently among the biggest challenges to be addressed. Many companies feel compelled to adapt their internal processes extensively to meet legal requirements while also operating efficiently.
One of the solutions discussed was the closed freight exchange. Unlike the open spot market, where transport orders are accessible to all users, this model allows freight and cargo space offers to be directed first to a previously established partner network. In this way, clients can reduce the effort required to verify new business partners in terms of the LkSG and CSDDD and prefer known, favored partners. “With the closed freight exchange, companies have the opportunity to focus collaboration on trusted partners, thereby minimizing the bureaucratic effort that arises from further regulations,” explains Gunnar Gburek.
Company Mascot: Mo, the Road Freight Hero
TIMOCOM proudly presents its new company mascot to the public: Mo, the Road Freight Hero. But Mo is much more than just a mascot – Mo, the Road Freight Hero embodies the values of TIMOCOM and is now officially part of TIMOCOM. Whether at trade fairs, online, during onboarding, or in the help center – Mo is always there when there is something new to discover.
