1. October 2024Strategic Milestone for the Future: Cargo Trans Logistik AG (CTL) has acquired all rights to its central IT platform and the associated source code from the previous software supplier Thalmaier Logistik und EDV Dienstleistungs GmbH. At the same time, CTL has founded the new subsidiary SoftWard GmbH, which will further develop the system and offer comprehensive IT services from a single source to the partners of the CTL network.
(Homburg) This positions CTL as one of the few groupage cooperations that develop their software in-house and provide their own IT services. “With the establishment of SoftWard GmbH, we are elevating our network to a new level: In the future, our system partners will benefit not only from a comprehensive HUB network for the production of their groupage shipments but also from extensive digital solutions – a real competitive advantage in the field of groupage cooperations,” explains CTL CEO Francesco De Lauso. The new subsidiary is based on the acquired IT platform, which offers a variety of functions. As a central data hub, it includes status management, billing, hall control functions, internal accounting, and the partner portal. Additionally, chief developer Thomas Wendler will strengthen the IT team of CTL. Guido Söffker, board member and CIO of CTL, will take over the management of SoftWard GmbH.
By acquiring the source code, the groupage cooperation simultaneously reduces its dependence on external IT service providers. The acquisition not only provides CTL with investment security but also the opportunity to further optimize operations and integrate IT services internally in the long term. “A particular focus will be placed on the further development of our portal as well as the introduction of innovative solutions and AI applications in IT security management,” explains De Lauso.
The operational start of SoftWard GmbH is planned for January 1, 2025. The goal is also to further strengthen the CTL network and its partners. “With over 30 years of experience in the logistics sector, we know the needs of shippers and consignees precisely. This know-how flows into the further development of the solution,” explains the CEO. The groupage cooperation aims to make its partners more future-proof and efficient through tailored and optimized IT solutions at transparent costs and to support them on their path to a digital future.
Leveraging Synergies Through Partnerships
Through strategic partnerships and collaborations with other companies, CTL also intends to leverage technological synergies. This will be supported by the targeted recruitment and retention of a highly qualified team. “The acquisition of the Thalmaier software and the establishment of SoftWard GmbH not only represent a strategic advancement but also provide a win-win situation for the entire CTL network and all stakeholders,” summarizes CIO and new managing director of SoftWard, Guido Söffker.
