22. November 2024Garbe Industrial Real Estate Italy (“Garbe”), one of the leading companies in the logistics and industrial real estate sector, is further expanding its logistics investments in the Italian market. To this end, the real estate specialist has acquired a 265,000 square meter development-ready site in Tortona, in the province of Alessandria.
(Hamburg/Milan) A logistics center with a total contiguous area of 102,000 square meters is to be built on the site in Tortona. This will be one of the largest logistics properties in Northern Italy along the main transport axis between Genoa and Milan.
The general contractor for the project is GSE Goldbeck, a leading European company specializing in the construction of logistics and industrial buildings. Construction is set to begin shortly, with the logistics property expected to be completed in 16 months. The new building aims to achieve LEED Platinum certification, one of the highest certification standards for construction quality and sustainability. Such construction aligns with Garbe’s commitment to environmentally friendly project developments in Italy, as demonstrated by the Giovi Logistics Park in Silvano Pietra (Pavia) and the facility under construction in Covo (Bergamo), both also LEED Platinum certified.
Strategically important location
Garbe secures the property at this strategically important location to meet the growing demand for logistics space in Northern Italy. The planned facility will feature state-of-the-art infrastructure and technological innovations at a central hub of the European freight transport network near the freight transport center of Genoa.
Marco Grassidonio, Country Head Italy of Garbe Industrial Real Estate, emphasizes: “The future of project developments in the logistics sector in Italy is increasingly moving towards a development model that meets the growing need for ecological, social, and economic sustainability. The Tortona project fully reflects our ‘Sustainonomics’ approach. Every new project developed by Garbe minimizes environmental impacts, brings tangible benefits to the region through modern and sustainable infrastructure, and is an attractive investment.”
Significant development opportunities
Giulia Fradegrada, Head of Investment Italy of Garbe Industrial Real Estate, adds: “We are very pleased to announce this significant acquisition. With this, Garbe is accelerating its expansion plans in Northern Italy – a strategic key area where we see significant development opportunities. These are driven by the increasing European demand for modern logistics space. This measure is part of our investment pipeline aimed at continuously providing our investors with diversification and attractive returns.” Garbe was advised by the law firm DLA Piper and CBRE in the property purchase.
