Rostock is the Fastest Growing Port in the Baltic Sea
Dec 20, 2024 at 7:55 PMOne third of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) use Artificial Intelligence (AI). This is shown by the new “WMS MARKET REPORT COMPACT 2024” from the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. The market report provides biannual updates on current trends and developments in the WMS market. This year, the focus of the survey was on Artificial Intelligence.
(Dortmund) Researchers at Fraunhofer IML were able to identify three main technological trends with the WMS market report: Predictive Analytics, Deep Learning, and Digital Security. The study also shows that WMS providers most frequently use AI for workforce demand forecasting. This highlights the increasing relevance of the technology for resource allocation. Nevertheless, the application areas of AI are very diverse: The most common approach to utilizing the technology in WMS is generative AI. In addition to AI, the study this year also focused on cloud solutions. There is an increasing number of WMS providers offering cloud solutions, representing a significant increase compared to the last report from 2022.
The biggest challenge in the field of Warehouse Management Systems is the continuous adaptation to the rapidly evolving landscape. Users of WMS systems achieve this through the use of these new technologies. The study series “WMS MARKET REPORT COMPACT 2024” observes the market to identify current developments and create transparency.
50 comprehensive evaluations of the WMS market
The biennial report includes over 50 comprehensive evaluations of the WMS market. It is conducted by the “warehouse logistics” platform of Fraunhofer IML, a European comparison platform for logistics IT systems. The researchers cover various system groups, including WMS, TMS (Transport Management Systems), and RPS (Resource Planning Systems). In the near future, consulting on MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) will also be available, which is currently under development. The “warehouse logistics” platform currently lists 81 WMS, some of which have been included in the WMS market report. For data collection, the researchers specifically analyzed selected aspects from the questionnaire anonymously, which they had asked during the validation process.
