Hermes Achieves New Record Volumes and High Punctuality
Jan 7, 2025 at 3:45 PMThe software house DAKOSY is ready for the customs innovations in the area of the EU shipping procedure NCTS5 and the new customs system Passar of Switzerland. In particular, service providers operating in the German-Swiss goods traffic face challenges due to these customs adjustments. With the tailored customs software ZODIAK GE, DAKOSY provides users with long-term security to manage processes even during this transitional phase.
The freight forwarders, logistics companies, and shippers active in cross-border traffic between Germany and Switzerland must prepare early for the numerous and ongoing customs changes. This includes the complete transition to the EU shipping procedure NCTS5, expected in January 2025, as well as the introduction of the Swiss customs system Passar.
“The effort is enormous. Processes need to be adjusted and more data provided than before,” reports DAKOSY customs expert Lutz Hagen. The software ZODIAK GE, certified for NCTS5 and Passar, comprehensively supports users in this process and offers numerous functionalities and automations to simplify the handling of traffic from customs notification to customs clearance and billing holistically.
NCTS requires the provision of additional data
The NCTS5 procedure leads, among other things, to significant adjustments for all parties involved due to the mandatory provision of the six-digit HS code in most cases. This is confirmed by Julian Gräble, head of customs at the Swiss customs declarant Transco: “We have significant adjustments to internal processes, especially regarding the specification of all customs tariff numbers and the depreciation of all positions, especially for export T2 documents.” In particular, consolidated freight traffic, which must be transferred from various export processes into a new procedure, causes time-consuming entries. “This is where our software comes in. Our application reduces multiple entries of position data to a minimum,” explains Hagen.
DAKOSY as a long-term companion for the Swiss customs system “Passar”
The new customs system of Switzerland, Passar, will be implemented in stages over several years. For this, logistics providers and their service providers need to have endurance. Hagen assures: “We accompany our users step by step through this transition. Our customs solution ZODIAK GE meets all the requirements to support users qualified and reliably in the adjustment processes.” DAKOSY also benefits from its more than 20 years of customs experience in this segment.
From export to import data and vice versa
The software ZODIAK GE also excels in the Germany-Switzerland traffic by significantly simplifying the two required customs clearances on both sides of the border for the same shipment through automation. “Export data from Switzerland becomes import data for Germany and vice versa. This effectively halves the processing effort,” summarizes Hagen. Gräble from TRANSCO reports from the user’s perspective: “ZODIAK GE perfectly maps the customs processes in Switzerland and Germany and works with a uniform mask layout for all customs procedures. The program runs very stably, is clearly structured, and is designed to be highly future-oriented.”
