LHG Handles Heaviest Project Cargo to Date at Lübeck Nordlandkai
21. January 2025Picking, packing, and shipping at a rapid pace: Millions of packages have left e-commerce warehouses in recent weeks around Black Friday and Christmas. Many products were oversized and packed with unnecessary filler material. Others were damaged during transport and returned as returns. The common denominator of both problems: inefficient packaging.
(Düsseldorf) Neither too much nor too little filler material: With Right-Sized Packaging, logistics companies avoid both under- and over-packaging, as the automated packaging technology adjusts the size of the shipping boxes precisely to the product. This not only saves material and transport costs but also significantly increases packaging efficiency during peak times. Due to the efficient package sizes, transport volume is reduced by up to 20%, thereby also decreasing CO₂ emissions per delivery, while the number of packages shipped per day increases. At the same time, the tailored packaging ensures that sensitive products are better protected and the return rate due to transport damage decreases.
In Right-Sized Packaging, the packages are glued with a hot melt adhesive, saving large amounts of tape and transport film. Henkel Adhesive Technologies offers a particularly sustainable adhesive for this automated packaging solution with the new Technomelt E-COM G5 Eco Cool, which has been specifically developed for e-commerce. It consists largely of bio-based raw materials and saves energy due to its low processing temperature. Furthermore, the compatibility of the adhesive with the recycling process helps to further reduce the ecological footprint of packaging solutions. Henkel will also present this new product at LogiMAT, taking place in mid-March.
Right time for sustainable and automated packaging technologies
The automation of the packaging process enables companies to respond flexibly to fluctuating order situations while simultaneously reducing costs and waste. Eike Dominiak, Business Development Manager E-Commerce Packaging at Henkel, emphasizes: “After a year of record sales and intense logistics processes, now is the right time to switch to sustainable and automated packaging technologies. With Henkel as a reliable partner, companies can optimize their value chain while positioning themselves as pioneers in sustainable logistics.”
