allivate launches “Easy Transit” at Frankfurt Airport
2. February 2025CargoBeamer, a company specializing in the transport of semi-trailers by rail, is expanding its network in Europe with a new connection between Kornwestheim near Stuttgart and Domodossola in Northern Italy. Starting from February 11, three weekly round trips will be offered on the new route. Departures from Kornwestheim will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while trains from Domodossola will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
(Leipzig/Kornwestheim/Domodossola) With this new line, CargoBeamer strengthens the shift of road transport to environmentally friendly rail and further expands its leading role in transalpine combined transport. The connection to Stuttgart is the second line of the company between Germany and Italy: on the established route Kaldenkirchen – Domodossola, CargoBeamer trains already transport many thousands of semi-trailers over the Alps every month. On all CargoBeamer lines, transport is carried out without the inclusion of the tractor unit and the driving personnel, allowing transport companies to use their resources more efficiently and significantly reduce CO2 emissions.
On the new line, transport capacities are offered through an open concept suitable for all types of semi-trailers – whether craneable or not, containers, swap bodies, or special trailers such as refrigerated and tank trailers. Without additional investments in the vehicle fleet, logistics companies can benefit from rail transport and save around 80% of CO2 emissions per transported unit compared to diesel trucks. Traction is provided by SBB Cargo International. On the German side, the DUSS terminal in Kornwestheim is used, while the trains are transshipped at the CargoBeamer terminal in Domodossola.
Another building block for the development of the Domodossola terminal
“With the new connection between Stuttgart and Domodossola, we strengthen our position as a central player in transalpine combined transport,” explains Boris Timm, COO of CargoBeamer. “The Stuttgart area is one of the economically strongest regions in Europe. By connecting it to our network, we offer our customers an additional way to handle their transports between Germany and Italy sustainably and efficiently. At the same time, the new line is another building block for the development of our terminal in Domodossola, which we will expand into one of the most efficient hubs for the transshipment of semi-trailers in Europe.”
