Combined Transport Balances Transport Emissions with shipzero

The Kombiverkehr KG and the Hamburg-based software company shipzero are now collaborating on the accounting of transport emissions. The two companies plan to provide emission balances for Kombiverkehr customers retroactively based on transports from the beginning of 2025.

(Frankfurt/Hamburg) “The background is, on the one hand, the increasing demands from freight forwarding companies, which are increasingly reliant on the emission values of rail due to sustainability reporting,” explains Jan Weiser, Head of Corporate Communications at Kombiverkehr KG, regarding this step for the Frankfurt intermodal operator.

At the beginning of 2025, the company has again received increasing inquiries for emission statistics from its customer base for transports in the last financial year. “As a provider of climate-friendly transport solutions, we also have a vested interest in substantiating the special environmental advantages of rail with tangible facts and promoting the use of sustainable rail,” Weiser continues.

Partner with Expertise Found

With shipzero, Kombiverkehr has found a partner that brings the necessary expertise and whose calculation methodology meets both the current GLEC standard and ISO 14083. “We are, of course, pleased to have gained Kombiverkehr as a central player in intermodal transport as a partner. In our collaboration, we want to precisely track transport processes to further enhance the advantages of rail through increased CO₂ transparency,” explains Martin Jacobs, Director Client Solutions at shipzero.

The cooperation partners have now started the ongoing project after a conceptual phase with the provision of order data, which shipzero receives from Kombiverkehr in an anonymized manner. The development and implementation of the calculation logic for Kombiverkehr transports is now underway on the side of shipzero. Subsequently, the emission data calculated by shipzero will be automatically and up-to-date integrated into Kombiverkehr’s order processing system.

Customer Access via the Portal «meinKOMBIVERKEHR»

Through interface solutions, the environmental balances will be transferred to downstream IT applications with customer access. “The portal meinKOMBIVERKEHR is a perfect place for this purpose,” Weiser gives a first glimpse of what the operator’s customers can expect.
