Jul 10, 2025 at 5:06 PMOn July 8, a milestone was achieved in European industry: Liebherr officially delivered its 2,000th mobile harbour crane in Ravenna. The LHM 600, now the largest crane in Marcegaglia’s local fleet, will support the handling of steel coils, billets, and sheets, which are crucial for the extensive logistics operations at the site.
At the event, executives from both companies participated, including Antonio Marcegaglia, President and CEO of the Marcegaglia Group, and Patricia Rüf, Member of the Board of Directors of Liebherr-International AG.
(Rostock/Ravenna) The arrival of the crane underscores the continuous growth of the Ravenna site, which handles over four million tons of steel annually and plays a central role in the corporation’s logistics strategy. With a reach of 61 meters and a lifting capacity of 154 tons, the LHM 600 is designed for performance, safety, and operator comfort. Its digital interface and ergonomic cabin enhance user-friendliness, while safety features such as standby fire protection ensure reliability in demanding port environments.
A Partnership Based on Shared Values and Industrial Ambition
The companies share more than twenty years of collaboration, which began in 2001 with the delivery of an LHM 400. Since then, the fleet has been expanded according to Marcegaglia’s operational requirements.
“We are proud to receive this crane, which represents a milestone,” said Antonio Marcegaglia during the event. “It is not only a technical achievement but also a symbol of our shared journey with Liebherr – a journey based on reliability, innovation, and mutual respect.”
The event also acknowledged the role of Mac Port, Liebherr’s long-standing sales and service partner in Italy. The company’s technical expertise and responsive support have significantly contributed to maintaining the performance and availability of the crane fleet at several locations.
Collaboration and Determination Mark a Technical Milestone
The plant in Ravenna is central to Marcegaglia’s industrial development strategy. With an annual steel processing of over four million tons, significant investments are currently being made to expand capacity, improve process quality, and optimize the environmental footprint. The LHM 600 will play an important role in achieving these goals, enabling faster, safer, and more efficient handling.
Liebherr’s regional service network, supported by our long-standing partner Mac Port Italy in Ravenna, ensures long-term reliability and tailored technical solutions. This foundation allows operators to meet growing demands with confidence and precision.
Strength of Tradition
“The delivery of our 2,000th mobile harbour crane to Marcegaglia is a proud moment,” said Andreas Ritschel, General Manager Sales Mobile Harbour Cranes at Liebherr Rostock. “It reflects the strength of our tradition and the shared innovative power with our customers that drives us forward.”
