Hellmann Takes Over Warehouse for Siemens Smart Infrastructure
18. September 2025With today’s groundbreaking ceremony in Nortmoor, the Bünting Group, one of the largest and most modern retail companies in Germany, begins the construction of a state-of-the-art fresh storage facility. In collaboration with Swisslog as an international intralogistics expert and technology partner, a highly modern facility is being built on an area of 6,500 square meters, combining fully automated processes, maximum storage density, and advanced conveyor and refrigeration technology.
(Dortmund/Nortmoor) The centerpiece of the facility is a fully automated shuttle warehouse, including pre-zone robotics, characterized by performance and modular expandability. With 34,500 container storage spaces, the system offers maximum efficiency and flexibility for future volume increases while ensuring that both goods movement and delivery processes are continuously optimized. The entire facility is controlled via the Swisslog software solution SynQ WCS, which precisely and seamlessly connects all systems, thereby ensuring transparency and process reliability in real-time.
“Together with Bünting, we bring technology exactly where it creates the greatest added value: to the heart of fresh logistics,” says Sven Borghoff, Vice President Sales – Integrated Solutions EMEA Central, Swisslog. “From the very beginning, our collaboration has been characterized by clear goals, consulting expertise, open dialogue on equal terms, and trust – this makes this project special.”
Increases Efficiency of Warehousing
The shuttle warehouse is complemented by state-of-the-art conveyor technology systems that enable consistently efficient goods movement and delivery. It significantly reduces manual work steps, increases the efficiency of warehousing, and ensures continuous process reliability. For the storage of temperature-sensitive goods, the system is designed to operate at constant temperatures between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius, thus meeting the highest demands for freshness and energy efficiency.
“With this construction project, the Bünting Group is achieving another milestone in improving logistics structures,” says Helge-Christian Eilers, Managing Director of Bünting SCM/Logistics. A centrally managed logistics system, including distribution and market supply, creates a future-proof solution.
Project Strengthens the Regional Labor Market
In addition to technological advantages, the project also strengthens the regional labor market: up to 14 new jobs will be created directly with the commissioning, and further positions may follow in the course of future expansions. Looking at the region, the construction of the fresh storage facility is also a significant contribution to economic development. The commissioning is planned for the first quarter of 2027.
