19. December 2025DP World expands port infrastructure in Romania
19. December 2025Poti, December 18, 2025 | HHLA Project Logistics, a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), has successfully completed a significant large transport of wind power components in December. The route extends from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea and involves a challenging logistics operation that is crucial for the expansion of wind energy in the region.
Transport of Wind Power Components
In the vicinity of Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the use of renewable energy is gaining increasing importance. To enhance electricity generation through wind turbines, HHLA Project Logistics has taken on the task of transporting oversized components for wind turbines along a challenging transport route. The project cargo originates from China and initially arrives at the Turkish port of Hopa. From there, it is transported via a complex inland route through Georgia.
The specialists at HHLA PL are responsible for the entire organization of the transport. This includes detailed planning, obtaining all necessary special permits, and coordinating escort vehicles with local authorities. The cargo consists of various heavy elements, with the towers of the wind turbines, measuring up to 25 m in length and 4.50 m in width, posing a particular challenge. The transport units can weigh up to 185 t in total, further complicating the logistics.
Korneli Korchilava, Managing Director of HHLA Project Logistics, emphasizes: „Our focus is naturally on the needs of our customers. However, we are particularly pleased when we can support sustainable energy projects with our expertise.“ With this project, HHLA Project Logistics reaffirms its competence in heavy and special transports while simultaneously making an important contribution to the promotion of renewable energy in Azerbaijan.
