(Lauterach / Bremen) Gebrüder Weiss takes over significant parts of the operational business of Ipsen Logistics. The globally operating logistics company thus strengthens its presence in Germany and simultaneously expands its global Air & Sea network with national companies in Belgium, Poland, and Malaysia. The acquisition is subject to the approval of the antitrust authorities and the necessary approval procedures. The purchase price has been kept confidential. The Ipsen national companies in Morocco and Algeria remain cooperation partners in the GW network but are unaffected by the acquisition, as is Ipsen Industrial Packing in Bremen.
Perspectives for customers and future employees
“The planned acquisition is an important development step for our Air & Sea sector. Gebrüder Weiss and Ipsen Logistics fit well together geographically, but also in terms of service understanding and culture. Based on this strengthened global network, we can offer both Ipsen’s customers and our future employees new development opportunities,” says Wolfram Senger-Weiss, Chairman of the Management Board of Gebrüder Weiss.
“The Gebrüder Weiss national companies in Europe, Asia, America, and Oceania are ideal footholds for the customers of Ipsen Logistics, who can now receive global logistics solutions from a single source,” says Lothar Thoma, Managing Director Air & Sea at Gebrüder Weiss. The extensive takeover of Ipsen Logistics’ business is part of a growth strategy that Gebrüder Weiss has been pursuing in the Air & Sea sector for several years. Just recently, the company expanded its global Air & Sea network with its own locations in South Korea, New Zealand, and Australia. “With the network consolidation in Germany and the market entry in Malaysia, our growth plans are temporarily complete,” adds Lothar Thoma. “We now cover the most important logistics markets worldwide with our own facilities – or with well-coordinated partnerships. We want to integrate and further strengthen this setup now.”
Ipsen: From port logistics provider to global logistics provider
Ipsen Logistics is a company that has developed from a former local port logistics provider to a globally operating logistics group over its more than 125-year company history. In the Air & Sea sector, a total of 500 employees are employed, with 180 alone at the eight locations in Germany. They plan and implement global logistics solutions for customers from various industries via air and sea freight. In addition to pure transport, additional services such as customs clearance, warehousing, packaging, quality inspection, or returns management, as well as consolidated container services or multimodal pre- and post-haul concepts to the seaports are included. “We offer our employees the chance for a new future perspective and are pleased to have found a buyer in Gebrüder Weiss who will secure the company’s future and preserve jobs,” say the two managing partners of Ipsen Logistics GmbH, Eduard Dubbers-Albrecht and Hans-Christian Specht.
