29. October 2020The commercial vehicle brand FUSO, under the DAIMLER AG umbrella, is now selling trucks and buses online. From this new, innovative sales channel, the company hopes to reach customers despite the restrictions caused by Corona. The vehicles are now available on the e-commerce platform Tokopedia.
(Stuttgart, Tokyo / Jakarta) – The FUSO distribution partner PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB) is now selling trucks and buses online together with its dealer network. Amid restrictions related to the coronavirus, a digital sales channel is more accessible to customers. From now on, a FUSO truck can be purchased on Tokopedia, the largest e-commerce platform in Indonesia.
Sales Can Be Completed Entirely Online
KTB launched the official FUSO shop on Tokopedia at the beginning of this month. All models and variants available on-site can now be purchased through Indonesia’s most used e-commerce platform, which, according to statistics, is visited by every third Indonesian at least once a month. This is the first time that the sale of new vehicles can be completed entirely online within a major FUSO market. The Tokopedia dealer profile is currently connected to 22 branch representatives within the KTB distribution network, covering about 85 percent of the local dealer network.
The introduction of the online sales strategy is part of KTB’s commitment to provide customers with easy access amid the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated social distancing measures. Customers can freely choose between in-store pickup or delivery when purchasing a truck or bus via Tokopedia. The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive so far.
Production in Japan – Final Assembly in Jakarta
The FUSO trucks sold in Indonesia include the light FUSO Canter (locally known as FUSO Colt) and the medium-duty FUSO Fighter. They are shipped as knocked-down kits (KD) from the FUSO plant in Kawasaki, Japan, and assembled locally in East Jakarta.
KTB sells vehicles in Indonesia based on the “Build-to-Stock model,” allowing customers to choose from pre-configured variants. This makes the sale of vehicles on online platforms a suitable alternative sales channel. In Europe, trucks are sold based on a “Build-to-Order model,” which is too complex for online sales. KTB is a key part of continuing the long tradition of the FUSO brand in Indonesia, which has been the local market leader for 50 consecutive years. The Indonesian archipelago currently represents the largest export market for FUSO vehicles.
