18. January 2021Dominic Gaida Takes Over Leadership for Gebrüder Weiss in Esslingen
18. January 2021Scania offers a fleet renewal program in Germany. Lower fuel consumption, better environmental balance, higher reliability, increased safety, and a more pleasant driving experience – these are just a few advantages that transport companies can benefit from when exchanging their fleet. On January 8, 2021, another incentive was introduced in Germany: the fleet renewal program.
(Koblenz/DE) The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) announced a national fleet renewal program as early as mid-last year. Now the details are finalized. Those who scrap an old truck (Euro 0-5 or EEV) and opt for a new Euro 6 truck will receive support of up to €15,000.
Fleet renewal enables more climate-friendly transport
“The new German funding program financially supports entrepreneurs in exchanging their fleet while also contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in road traffic,” says Christian Hottgenroth, Sales Director Trucks, Scania Germany Austria. “We see the fleet renewal program as another important step towards a sustainable transport system. CNG and LNG trucks are also eligible for funding. Scania aims to create a world of mobility that is better for the economy, society, and the environment. By exchanging very old fleets for new ones, we are laying the foundation in Germany for an even more modern and climate-friendly freight transport.”
Details on funding
The prerequisite is the commercial use of the existing vehicle and the new vehicle to be acquired. Furthermore, a new commercial vehicle over 7.5 tons with a gasoline, diesel, or gas engine with Euro 6 must be purchased. The type of financing does not matter. Both a purchase and a lease of the truck qualify for participation in the fleet renewal program. The new truck must remain in the company for at least 24 months, or the leasing contract must have a minimum term of 24 months. The new vehicle must also be equipped with a turning assistant (either factory-installed or as an aftermarket option) and tires optimized for rolling resistance. Applications can be submitted to the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) starting January 26, 2021, at 9:00 AM. The application deadline ends no later than April 15, 2021. The electronic application system will be closed when no budget funds are available.
Multiple benefits with gas trucks
“Entrepreneurs who choose a CNG or LNG drive when exchanging their fleet will benefit in the next six months and beyond. They not only receive the fleet renewal premium but also save on German highways. Because gas vehicles are exempt from tolls until the end of 2023,” explains Stefan Ziegert, Product Manager Sustainable Transport Solutions, Scania Germany Austria. He adds: “The advantages of this sustainable engine are clear and not just financial. CNG and LNG trucks emit up to 15 percent less CO2 compared to comparable diesel trucks when using fossil natural gas. With biomethane, this value can be increased to up to 90 percent. This environmental advantage is another strong argument for opting for this future-proof and already proven type of drive.”
