0G Network Operator Sigfox Germany Celebrates Five Years of Existence

Sigfox Germany is celebrating its anniversary of five years in operation. Sigfox is the operator of the 0G technology network, which has now achieved 90 percent network coverage in Germany. The network is utilized by major clients such as Deutsche Post DHL, Siemens, and Weber Betonwerke. The 0G technology is suitable for large-scale Internet of Things applications and connects millions of objects worldwide.

(Munich) From 0 to 0G in five years: Sigfox Germany, operator of the 0G network in Germany, is celebrating its fifth birthday today. The young company has already accomplished great things: Nationwide, the network now covers all major arteries of the economy. In terms of area, 0G currently achieves a network coverage of 90 percent. Today, its customers and partners include corporations such as Deutsche Post DHL, Siemens, Weber Betonwerke, as well as AlpsAlpine, ACP Digital, and Box ID. A 15-member team at the headquarters in Grasbrunn near Munich is working on further network expansion and advising companies on how 0G technology can become an important driver for digitalization in industry, transport, logistics, and agriculture.

Further Network Expansion as One of the Goals for 2021

Sigfox Germany has big plans for the next five years as well. And the necessary capital: In 2020, the European investment company Cube Infrastructure Managers joined Sigfox Germany with the billion-euro fund “Cube Infrastructure II.” The goal for 2021: Further network expansion, support for digitalization projects, and investments in customer service.

Cube’s investment is a milestone for the entire 0G universe: Sigfox Germany is now the largest subsidiary of Heliot Europe, Europe’s largest 0G network provider, which supplies Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Slovenia, and Germany with IoT connectivity. “The 0G technology has established itself as the cornerstone for digital transformation towards Industry 4.0. This has convinced not only independent financial investors but also many companies to leverage the opportunities of digital networking in the Internet of Things,” says Thomas Scheibel, Managing Director of Sigfox Germany.

Sigfox 0G Technology: Sustainable, Efficient, Cost-Effective

The Sigfox 0G technology, developed in France in 2010, is an international solution that is already in use in 72 countries today. Based on low-frequency radio technology, companies can digitize their processes and connect objects of all kinds to the Internet of Things via the 0G network. Corresponding IoT-capable devices send the smallest data packets over long distances through the 0G network, transmitting information such as the condition or position of an object. Unlike mobile communication standards such as 3/4/5G, the 0G technology is energy-efficient, cost-effective, nearly maintenance-free, and suitable for large-scale IoT applications.
