13. February 2021GEODIS, a global leader in supply chain services, offers its customers guaranteed cargo space from China to Europe in response to the particularly tense situation in the sea freight market. The first charter ship is expected to arrive in Hamburg on February 28.
(Paris) The first ship with a capacity of 1,000 TEU1, operated exclusively by GEODIS, is scheduled to arrive in Hamburg on February 28. It will carry a total of 435 40-foot containers for customers who have faced difficulties securing cargo space at feasible rates with regular carriers due to the current capacity shortages. The next charter ship is set to leave Shanghai on February 10. Depending on demand, GEODIS plans to schedule additional trips in the coming weeks.
“We are aware of the current market challenges arising from strong customer demand and capacity shortages with ocean carriers and sea transport from China and other parts of Asia,” explains Matthias Hansen, Senior Vice President Global Ocean Freight at GEODIS, regarding the situation. “We are working hard to find solutions for our customers. Therefore, this exclusive charter offering complements the long-term agreements we have made with the shipping lines that are important to us. Our goal is to provide customers with more security in an unstable market.”
“Current market forces have led to fluctuating and unforeseen demand spikes for goods from Asia,” comments Onno Boots, GEODIS Regional President and CEO for Asia Pacific. “Our main goal is to offer our existing customers multimodal solutions so they can ship their goods on time and cost-effectively. As a flexible and innovative service provider, GEODIS continuously seeks alternatives that include rail transport, sea, and air freight to meet the high expectations of shippers on the increasingly volatile Far East West Bound (FEWB) route.”
