Logistics has long been a driver of digital innovation

17. March 2021Integrated logistics services with state-of-the-art standards: A new logistics center of neska Mannheim, a company of the HGK business unit Logistics and Intermodal, is being built in Ladenburg, Baden-Württemberg. The complex is being developed for customers from the regional economy, offering a comprehensive service here.
(Ladenburg) The location could hardly be better: The site borders directly on the Ladenburg chemical park and is situated between the A5 and A6 motorways. The future complex is only 15 kilometers from the Mannheim container terminal and 70 kilometers from Frankfurt Airport. Thus, optimal transport connections are provided, and incoming and outgoing transports do not have to pass through the city center of Ladenburg.
“The construction of the Ladenburg logistics center is a conscious investment in the region, from which the people here will also benefit,” reports Alen Petrusic, neska branch manager in Mannheim. At the new location, up to 140 jobs with above-tariff compensation structures will be created, 110 in the commercial sector and another 30 in the administrative area. Petrusic: “With the new building in Ladenburg, we can optimally consolidate our existing branches in Mannheim and the surrounding area at a modern and efficient location. This means a significant improvement, especially for our customers.”
Highest value on sustainability
On the 100,000 square meter site, three halls for logistics services will be built with a total capacity of 54,000 square meters. Additionally, office and utility spaces of 3,000 square meters each will be constructed. The highest value will be placed on sustainability in the construction and operation of the new facility. An integrated photovoltaic system on the roofs of the three halls will generate electricity and provide a capacity of 749,000 kWh per year. The energy generated will ensure the self-supply of the cooling system and other power supply. “In Ladenburg, we want to significantly improve our CO2 balance, among other things, through the photovoltaic system. We are also examining the use of electric vehicles for regional transport. We are investing here in a sustainable and secure future,” explains neska managing director Dr. Jan Zeese.
The range of services that neska will offer in Ladenburg includes, in addition to loading and unloading goods, the storage of packaged goods. Order picking, labeling, and packaging, as well as administration and document creation, complement the service portfolio.
Safety is a top priority
The safety infrastructure across the entire site meets the latest standards. In Ladenburg, both technical and organizational aspects are focused on maximum quality, and the legally required regulations are strictly adhered to. The complex is equipped with the most modern systems for hazard prevention, hazard management, and environmental protection in case of emergencies. “There is no logistics without potential hazards. Therefore, it is even more important for us to consider all safety-related aspects during construction. Safety is a top priority at neska,” says Alen Petrusic.
The completion of the logistics complex is planned for the third quarter of 2021. The commissioning of the first sections will begin in April. “For the local neska location, but also for the economy of the region, this represents a milestone,” says neska managing director Dr. Jan Zeese.
