20. April 2021DB Cargo Board Sets Signals to Green for CO2-Free Rail Logistics
21. April 2021The influence of platform economy on the business models of established freight forwarders and their digitalization dynamics is the topic of a virtual forum by the DSLV Federal Association of Freight Forwarding and Logistics at this year’s leading trade fair transport logistic on May 6, 2021.
(Berlin) Digitalization is also sustainably changing the world of freight forwarding. In recent years, numerous internet platforms have been established, offering freight exchanges, tenders, transport management, supply chain visibility, and the first digital freight forwarders as new market participants aiming to digitally map all processes of the freight forwarding business from the ground up. As diverse as the freight forwarding and logistics industry is due to its heterogeneous customer and service spectrum as well as its industry-specific peculiarities, so individual are the requirements for digital solutions.
Unlike in B2C markets, no dominant platform providers have been able to position themselves in the B2B-dominated freight forwarding and logistics environment with its many different market participants. The data generated in logistics also remains widely distributed, making “Big Data” analyses and applications difficult. However, it is precisely the generation, analysis, and utilization of vast amounts of data that has made platform models so successful in consumer markets.
Can Synergies Between Established Companies and Platforms Emerge?
How can long-term synergies arise between established freight forwarders and the advancing platform economy? Which business areas are particularly well-suited for processing via platforms? What dangers does the new technology pose for data protection? How can a freight forwarding company share its data while also protecting customer data and trade secrets? How will the competitive environment develop through the platform economy?
