Dematic Automates New Logistics Center of IVF HARTMANN
9. June 2021According to Hermes Survey, Parcel Service Providers Contribute to Quality of Life
9. June 2021Every year, several hundred thousand pallets leave the REYHER logistics center for destinations around the world – about 70,000 of them with pallet covers that protect the contents. To save valuable resources, the Hamburg-based trading company for fasteners and fastening technology is now relying on GreenCor® corrugated cardboard made from grass paper from CARTOFLEX.
(Hamburg) The corrugated cardboard used under the GreenCor® brand is an innovative, resource-saving development from the Lüneburg packaging manufacturer CARTOFLEX. The special feature of this packaging material is that it consists of about one third grass. The remaining 70 percent of the corrugated cardboard is made from recycled material.
Production Reduces Use of Energy, Water, and Chemicals
The production of grass paper differs technically only slightly from conventional paper manufacturing. In addition to waste paper, grass fibers are pulped in water. The suspension is then dewatered, forming a coherent web of fibers. In contrast to the production of fresh fibers or recycled fibers, only mechanical processes are involved in the extraction of grass fibers. This significantly reduces the consumption of water and energy in production. The use of chemicals can also be drastically reduced. Despite the high grass content, there is no risk of allergies due to the special production process that uses high pressure and high temperatures.
Raw Material from the Region
The grass needed for the grass pellets is sourced from local farmers in Schleswig-Holstein from grass and compensation areas. These areas must be created due to ongoing soil sealing. They may only be farmed extensively and must be mowed twice a year. Due to the length and strong lignification, the harvested grass is not suitable as animal feed, so there is no competition with livestock feed.”The company Cartoflex has been reliably supplying us with high-quality packaging material for many years,” says Klaus-Dieter Schmidt, Managing Director of REYHER. “We are pleased that, thanks to this innovative development, we can contribute to saving valuable resources and reducing the use of chemicals in the future.”
