Jul 27, 2021 at 6:24 PMThe logistics location Bratislava of the Austrian logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss has been expanded by around 20,000 square meters. This is due to significant growth driven by high demand in e-commerce. The investment volume amounts to seven million euros. The workforce has also been increased by 20 percent to cover peak demands.
(Lauterach/Bratislava) The international transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss continues its growth trajectory in Slovakia. They look back on a strong financial year. “The positive development is largely due to the high demand in the e-commerce sector. Additionally, we have been able to win important customers, whom we convinced with our dense network and direct connections to all European markets,” says René Stranz, Country Manager of Gebrüder Weiss Slovakia. The company recorded an increase of around 40 percent in the area of land transport and home delivery.
New Warehouse, More Employees
In response to the growing shipment volume, Gebrüder Weiss has expanded its logistics space at the Bratislava location. There is now nearly 20,000 square meters more space available on the site. In addition to new offices and spacious outdoor areas, the warehouse capacity has been increased by 5,000 square meters (total: 15,000 m2) and the transshipment area has been enlarged by 2,200 square meters (total: 6,000 m2). The number of employees has also been increased by 20 percent. “This prepares us well to handle shipment peaks, such as on Black Friday, smoothly and to meet our customers’ expectations regarding precision and service quality,” says Stranz.
The logistics company has invested around seven million euros in the expansion, taking ecological aspects into account; for example, an intelligent heating and cooling system has been installed, and continuous LED lighting and low-energy devices have been prioritized. Looking ahead, they already have potential further growth in mind: an additional 10,000 square meters are available as expansion space.
