9. August 2021DACHSER invests in the Willebroek branch in Belgium. In the summer, the expansion of the transshipment hall by 2,000 m2 and 19 gates began, as well as the expansion of the parking areas by 7,500 m2. The construction work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. With this expansion, the network in the Benelux countries is strengthened.
(Kempten/Willebroek) DACHSER has been active in the Belgian market since 1975, and in 1995, DACHSER moved to Willebroek. After 15 years, this building also became too small, creating the need for a completely new logistics facility. Therefore, the entire branch moved to the De Hulst industrial area in 2014.
The current facility covers 7,000 square meters and has 68 gates. In the coming months, it will be expanded by 2,000 square meters and 19 gates, bringing the total area to 9,000 square meters with 87 gates. The parking spaces on site will also be enlarged by 7,500 square meters. With this additional capacity, DACHSER in Willebroek is well-prepared for the future.
Growth has continued since 2014
“The growth of our European groupage activities, which was the reason for the move to these new premises in 2014, has continued, and now the time has come for the second construction phase,” says Frans van Bedaf, General Manager of the DACHSER branch in Willebroek. “The commitment and logistical expertise of the 115 employees in Willebroek are an important part of this success.” Construction work began in June and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Aat van der Meer, Managing Director of DACHSER Benelux, looks back with satisfaction on the past years: “Belgium is an important link for freight transport in Europe due to its central location in the DACHSER network. With the growth of the branch, which is located near the Port of Antwerp, we strengthen our network in Belgium and the entire Benelux region. Additionally, we can offer our customers a complete solution that combines road transport with air and sea freight, thus taking care of the entire logistics process for our customers – we call this Interlocking.”
