14. August 2021The international logistics company HOYER is regarded as an expert in handling demanding liquid goods from the chemical, gas, food, and mineral oil industries. The safe and solution-oriented services led to an extension of the bitumen logistics contract with PUMA for another five years in the summer of 2021 in the United Kingdom.
(Hamburg) The HOYER Group places special emphasis on an efficient and customer-tailored service concept in all areas of operation. In bitumen logistics, the specialized logistics provider assembles complete management teams: They take care of loading and unloading at customer locations, the associated capacity planning, the scheduling of driving personnel, and they optimize fleet utilization. For our customers, we provide a fleet exclusively dedicated to them and manage peak orders with additional qualified personnel and equipment. This allows our customers to focus on their core business while HOYER supports their dynamic market growth safely, agilely, and reliably.
Bitumen Products for Various Applications
Bitumen products are used in various areas, including road surfacing, roofing, or sealing, so the product varies depending on its application. As a specialist in hazardous goods, the HOYER Group is one of the leading providers of liquid bitumen transport in the United Kingdom. The product, loaded at around 170 degrees Celsius, requires special equipment that maintains the temperature stable throughout the transport duration. HOYER works closely with several leading providers to ensure that all equipment meets the highest safety standards while remaining a step ahead in terms of innovation and design. This applies to innovative solutions such as lightweight tanks as well as flexible rubber hoses, which HOYER has introduced into the operational bitumen business in the United Kingdom after extensive testing with PUMA.
Comprehensive Initial Training for Drivers
The delivery of a qualitatively flawless product is the responsibility of drivers specially trained for this hazardous material. “HOYER places great importance on a very high safety standard and invests accordingly in training and further education,” says Garry Brennen, Bitumen Contracts Manager for the United Kingdom at HOYER Group. “Our drivers receive comprehensive initial training that focuses on all aspects of loading and unloading bitumen and includes in-depth theoretical training on product knowledge and emergency behavior. The intensive training is refreshed every year with a full-day practical training measure and associated assessments. The legal requirements in the British market are clearly exceeded in quality and quantity by our compact safety programs.” The training package also includes regular training for defensive and fuel-efficient driving as well as safe maneuvering techniques, which help drivers not only to make their own behavior behind the wheel safer but also to recognize potential risks from other road users early on. Logistics processes are also reviewed and adjusted after unannounced checks by driver trainers and managers from HOYER.
Lightweight Tank Trailers
An efficient approach is particularly important to the international logistics company not only in planning and execution. HOYER uses lightweight tank trailers and has also collaborated with customers to develop lightweight solutions for auxiliary equipment to enable maximum loading with the product. This offers our customers double benefits: Reducing the number of transports not only leads to lower costs but also to significantly fewer emissions.
