All’s well – or not with the logistics indicator for the third quarter?
13. September 2021Save CO2 Emissions with the Reusable Box from trans-o-flex
13. September 2021The LKZ Prien GmbH and the Study Society for Combined Transport e.V. with the participation of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML can start the study on the intermodal capability of standard semi-trailers in Germany. The intermodal capability of semi-trailers is a central issue in shifting freight transport from road to rail.
(Prien/With their proposal for the “Study on the Assessment of the Environmental and Transport Policy Impacts of a Europe-wide Mandatory Intermodal Capability of Standard Semi-Trailers in Germany,” LKZ Prien GmbH and the Study Society for Combined Transport e.V. with the participation of the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML were successful in a tender from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI).
The study will address the following topics:
- Overview of the status quo regarding definition, technology, and market information on intermodal-capable semi-trailers in Germany (embedded in the European transport network) and the existing framework conditions for its development
- Identification of the expected impacts of a Europe-wide mandatory intermodal capability of semi-trailers concerning the shift of traffic to rail in terms of economic and macroeconomic indicators as well as expected environmental impacts
- Recommendations for action on how a time-limited financial support for the acquisition and retrofitting of intermodal-capable semi-trailers can temporarily contribute to reducing CO2 emissions
Consortium with Years of Experience
The consortium is characterized by decades of experience in the field of transport logistics research – particularly in combined transport – and can already present numerous transport studies as references. The consortium combines technical expertise, access to various forecasting models, modeling of transport models, and many years of experience in project management.
A crucial factor is also the strong network of relevant stakeholders in logistics that each partner possesses. All partners are also committed to the implementation of the Master Plan for Rail Freight Transport, which was jointly developed and presented to the public in 2017 by the BMVI and representatives from the economy and the rail freight transport sector.
