30. September 2021European Cargo Logistics (ECL) is expanding its “One-Stop-Shop” network. New in the intermodal portfolio of the Lübeck Port Company (LHG) subsidiary is the destination Riga. In cooperation with the Latvian service provider LDZ Logistics (LDZ), ECL offers a full train connection between Liepāja and Riga for different types of trailers.
(Lübeck/Riga) The new intermodal connection between Liepaja and Riga from ECL also includes non-craneable trailers and hazardous goods units. Additionally, ECL takes care of the onward transport if needed. The partner on the sea side is the Swedish shipping company Stena Line.
Tobias Behncke, who is responsible for the intermodal sector at ECL, explains: “The sea connection between Lübeck and Liepāja is very efficient with seven departures per week in each direction. We are now connecting Riga to it. There are promising approaches with our partner LDZ to further expand the line; the market shows great interest. Moreover, we support each other in marketing our products.”
Train Connections Align with Stena Line Schedules
The train connections align with the ferry schedules of Stena Line between Lübeck-Travemünde and Liepāja. The trains currently operate Friday evenings from Liepāja, arriving in Riga the following day. The return trip is on Sunday. The project is still in the testing phase, but ECL partner LDZ aims to expand the schedule soon. The intermodal service provider operates very flexibly. Timetables and additional stops can be customized based on order volume.
The LHG subsidiary ECL has successfully established itself as an intermodal operator to and from Scandinavia over the past ten years. With its “One-Stop-Shop” network, it connects all Baltic Sea coastal states with the industrial centers of Duisburg, Ludwigshafen, and Verona via the Lübeck port. In addition, there are numerous connecting services.
