Topping-Out Ceremony for the Green Cube Logistics Center by Honold
15. November 2021With an air transport from China to Poland, Gebrüder Weiss facilitated a spectacular first landing of the world’s largest cargo aircraft at Rzeszów Airport. The Antonov An-225 landed on November 13 at around 11 PM at the airport located 170 kilometers east of Krakow.
(Rzeszów/Krakow/Lauterach) On board, the freighter had project cargo for the Polish industry. The Antonov took off a day earlier from Tianjin Airport in China.
Stanislaw Rosciszewski, Country Manager Poland at Gebrüder Weiss: “Even though charter flights are a fixed part of our air services, the transport with a cargo aircraft of this dimension was something special for us. Within a tight timeframe and under the challenging pandemic conditions, our air freight managers in Poland and China optimally organized the entire supply chain between the manufacturer and the recipient.”
Fast Transport of Large Volume Goods
The oversized freighter is ideal for heavy transports. “The situation in air and sea freight remains very tense, as there is still not enough cargo space available. With the Antonov, we can transport large volume goods quickly for our customers,” explains Lothar Thoma, Managing Director Air & Sea at Gebrüder Weiss. The logistics company had already deployed the giant freighter in October for a transport to Austria. Additionally, this year the slightly smaller Antonov An-124 was chartered multiple times for flights to Europe.
