2. December 2021FUSO, the Japanese subsidiary of Daimler Truck and one of Asia’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, announces the sales launch of the new FUSO Canter in Europe. Starting in December 2021, the light truck will roll off the production line at the European FUSO plant in Tramagal, Portugal. The production start of the latest generation marks the next milestone in the success story of the FUSO Canter.
(Stuttgart/Tramagal) The new model impresses with a modern, redesigned cabin, enhanced safety, and improved comfort. With a newly developed compact exhaust system, the new FUSO Canter also meets the EURO VI – STEP E emissions standard. Since August 2021, the new FUSO Canter has been available for order through the FUSO dealer network across Europe.
Philipp Panter, Head of Sales, Marketing & Customer Service at FUSO Europe: “The FUSO Canter has been an international best-seller among light trucks for decades, thanks to its smallest turning radius in its class, high payload, and versatility. Since its market launch in 1963, over 4.5 million FUSO Canters have been produced worldwide. With today’s production start, we are pleased to offer our European customers a significant upgrade in terms of safety, comfort, and a new modern cabin design.”
Developed in Japan
The FUSO Canter from Tramagal was developed in Japan and is manufactured in Europe. The majority of its parts come from more than 90 European suppliers, including the engine, axle components, springs, brakes, tires, front headlights and lights, as well as seats and most of the interior trim. FUSO itself primarily supplies labor-intensive parts for the vehicle cabin and frame, axle parts, steering wheel, heating and air conditioning, as well as the innovative dual-clutch transmission Duonic from Japan.
“Today’s production start is a proud moment for all of us here at the European FUSO plant in Tramagal. Since 1980, we have produced nearly 240,000 FUSO trucks. Now, this legacy continues with the new FUSO Canter, which starts rolling off the line today and, as always, meets the demanding quality standards of FUSO and Daimler Truck,” says Jorge Rosa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Europe.
CO2-neutral by 2022
The plant located about 150 kilometers northeast of Lisbon produces the FUSO Canter and its fully electric sibling model, the FUSO eCanter. In line with Daimler Truck’s sustainability goals for European production sites, the plant aims for CO2-neutral production by 2022.
