LIP Invest Releases Market Report “Logistics Real Estate Germany” for Q1 2022
22. May 2022At the “European Ferry Shipping Summit” held from May 19 to 20, 2022, in Malmö, Sweden, the Port of Rostock was awarded the title of Ferry and RoRo Port of the Year. The annual “Ferry Shipping Summit” takes place in various European port cities, bringing together leaders from ferry and RoRo shipping companies and ports. The last recipient of this award was the Belgian port of Zeebrugge in 2019.
(Malmö) “We are very pleased to receive this award from the European ferry and RoRo industry. It is a recognition of the infrastructural commitment of ROSTOCK PORT and its shareholders, but above all, it is the result of the market efforts of all ferry and RoRo shipping companies operating in Rostock. The award is also an incentive to continue our commitment to the important port segment of ferry and RoRo traffic,” says Dr. Gernot Tesch, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT GmbH.
In Rostock, four ferry companies, Scandlines, Stena Line, TT-Line, and Hansa Destinations, operate, connecting the largest port in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with Denmark and Sweden multiple times a day.
“In the roll-on/roll-off sector, we thank our partners Finnlines, Transfennica, and UPM Seaways for their trust and collaboration, which connect us with our Finnish partner ports. We accept this award with pride as a recognition and appreciation for all actors, service providers, and handling companies in the Port of Rostock,” adds Jens Scharner, Managing Director of ROSTOCK PORT.
In 2021, a record result was achieved in Rostock for rolling cargo, ferry, and RoRo goods, with a handling result of 18 million tons (+2.7 million tons or +18 percent). The share of rolling freight in the total handling of the overseas port was 63 percent. Rostock is the fourth largest German port and one of the most significant ferry and RoRo ports in the Baltic Sea.
