TT-Line’s Latest Ferry Calls Lübeck for the First Time
24. January 2023FIEGE is investing in the renewal of its location in Bülach, Switzerland, and is constructing a 17,000 square meter logistics center in close proximity to Zurich Airport. Demolition work began in September 2022, as one of the two existing buildings must be removed to build a state-of-the-art multi-user center on the same site within the next two years.
(Greven/Bülach) On approximately 17,000 square meters of storage and logistics space, including an office block over two floors, FIEGE will provide around 30 customers from the e-commerce, retail, and industry sectors with even more efficient logistics processes in the future – and above all, the opportunity to grow.
“With the new building, we can meet the diverse requirements of our customers even more precisely. The fact that Zurich Airport is just a stone’s throw away ensures optimal access to the Swiss market and increases the attractiveness of the location,” says Martin Heinrich, Head of Branch Bülach. Upon completion in summer 2024, nearly 20 percent of the available space will be occupied by existing customer businesses.
Space for 13,000 Containers
While pallets will primarily be stored in high racks on the ground floor, FIEGE is focusing on automation through an AutoStore on the upper floor. “This system also works under vacuum, allowing us to store perfume bottles for customers in the cosmetics industry, for example, while being well protected in terms of fire safety,” explains Heinrich. A total of 13,000 containers can be accommodated in the facility. The fact that the new logistics center is being built on already developed land is an “optimal case” for Heinrich. “Suitable areas for new construction projects are rare in Switzerland. The close proximity of the two logistics centers allows us to achieve symbiotic effects,” he says.
Strong Focus on Sustainability
Sustainability is also a consideration: The new logistics property meets the Gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The developer is a real estate fund from Credit Suisse Asset Management, which is realizing the building tailored to FIEGE’s requirements. The logistics center not only shines due to its forward-looking construction method but also boasts impressive energy efficiency. A large part of the required energy is produced by a photovoltaic system, and the demand-oriented LED lighting and an air heat pump also contribute to this – ensuring optimal working conditions. “We want our colleagues to enjoy working with us. Therefore, bright offices and pleasant break rooms were a must. However, the absolute highlight is certainly the large rooftop terrace,” says Heinrich.
