26. February 2023After successful test runs, Smart Container Loop GmbH announces its collaboration with the Economic Cooperative of German Veterinarians (WDT) and two major pharmaceutical companies. This expands the specialist for reusable shipping systems’ customer base in the pharmaceutical sector and further strengthens its market position.
(Pullach) Smart Container Loop GmbH, a service company specializing in reusable shipping systems, is further enhancing its market position as a specialist for the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to the pilot customer MSD, a pharmaceutical manufacturer that significantly contributed to the development of the containers for the pharmaceutical segment, the Economic Cooperative of German Veterinarians (WDT) and two large pharmaceutical companies are now also users of the Smart Container Loop reusable systems.
In the veterinary medicine sector, WDT began using the Smart Container Loop system for reusable shipping in February. This makes it, alongside MSD Animal Health – Intervet Deutschland GmbH, the second prominent user in the veterinary industry to ship nationwide using reusable systems. Together with its subsidiary VetLogOne GmbH, which offers logistics services in the veterinary sector as a fulfillment service provider, the cooperative plans to supply veterinary practices with sustainable reusable containers.
Environmentally friendly packaging
“At WDT, the protection of humans, animals, and the environment is at the center of our actions. Accordingly, we place special emphasis on environmentally friendly packaging and shipping methods. With the reusable shipping system from Smart Container Loop, we have found the ideal solution for us, as a closed-loop system has been developed that works simply, transparently, and without additional effort for both us as shippers and for recipients,” explains Andreas Mahn, Managing Director of VetLogOne GmbH.
Smart Container Loop has also gained two major pharmaceutical companies in the human medicine sector as customers, who switched to the Smart Container Loop reusable system after a six-month testing phase at the turn of the year. Both use the durable boxes for supplying hospitals and pharmacies. One of the two pharmaceutical companies also supplies the pharmaceutical wholesale trade with the lightweight reusable containers.
The reusable container system with seamless track-and-trace software from Smart Container Loop represents a sustainable alternative for many shippers to the ever-increasing costs of single-use cardboard. This is due, for example, to the fact that shipping a single reusable box can save 50 percent CO2 compared to paper cartons. Additionally, the disposal of cardboard is eliminated with reusable containers. Last but not least, sharply rising raw material prices for cardboard and the political promotion of reusable systems are leading to increased demand for the Smart Container Loop system.
Quality demands in pharmaceuticals are high
Leopold Schoeller, Managing Director of Smart Container Loop, comments on the new customers: “The quality demands in the pharmaceutical industry are high. We are pleased that we have been able to convince WDT and two other major customers from the human medicine sector, three renowned companies in the pharmaceutical industry, of our innovative reusable container system.” Justus Buchheister, Co-Managing Director responsible for operational processing at Smart Container Loop, adds: “With the growing volume, we can increasingly enhance the efficiency of the system, which is also reflected in the feedback from recipients who greatly appreciate the user-friendliness of the system solution.”
