Sustainability in Focus: TGW Smart Energy Strategy
21. March 2023“What happens when logistics stops working?” The answer to this question is conveyed by “Die Wirtschaftsmacher” in their new image campaign. The motifs reveal the influence of the economic sector on our lives. With the campaign, the initiative builds on a successful action from the previous year with similar thought-provoking ideas. The overarching focus for 2023 is the commitment to promoting young talent in Germany’s third-largest economic sector, highlighting its exciting and meaningful areas of work. The annual motto is: “Your Future in Logistics. Makes Sense!”
(Frankfurt/Munich) Among the biggest challenges for logistics, in light of the skilled labor shortage, are widely known image problems. Employees underestimate the diversity, innovation-driven nature, and attractiveness of logistics professions, while the socially significant role and performance of the economic sector remain insufficiently visible. Therefore, “Die Wirtschaftsmacher” strategically and successfully focus on educational work, providing authentic insights into the role of logistics.
Without logistics, there is a lack of everything – for everyone, always, and everywhere!
With new motifs, the initiative paints a picture of a world without logistics. It becomes clear that most everyday items in our lives would not be available without logistics. The campaign leads to the realization: Our familiar daily life simply would not exist without logistics. The pizza would lack salami, the picture would lack a frame, the new building would lack materials, the musician would lack an instrument, and the sick would lack medicine. In short: There would be a lack of everything, for everyone, always and everywhere.
Against Old Logistics Prejudices
The skilled labor shortage is one of the greatest challenges for logistics. With the slogan “Your Future in Logistics. Makes Sense!” the Wirtschaftsmacher are dedicating themselves to promoting young talent this year and particularly aim to combat prejudices. The most common clichés about logistics serve as templates for the newly launched prejudice campaign. It is often thought and rarely checked that it is solely about jobs like forklift drivers. Or the prejudice that logistics does not offer interesting activities. It is also said to be unsustainable, uninnovative, and not suitable for career-conscious young people. The Wirtschaftsmacher demonstrate with their new motifs that these are indeed prejudices and often the opposite is true.
“The prejudices against our economic sector are, from the perspective of those working in logistics, as stubborn as they are detached from reality. However, anyone who gains initial insights will realize that there are exciting tasks with social relevance and real career prospects here,” explains Frauke Heistermann, spokesperson for the Wirtschaftsmacher. “As a logistics initiative, we particularly want to invite young people to open up to the topic so they can make informed career decisions.”
A closer examination of prejudices against logistics is also available in the free downloadable thematic booklet “Logistics Prejudices Quickly Refuted.”
