7. May 2023The Swiss company AELER is pleased to announce its participation in the transport logistic 2023 trade fair in Munich. AELER is reinventing the shipping container and its business model, Container-as-a-Service (CAAS), offering its customers a premium service with high-quality products.
(Lausanne) As a world premiere, AELER will showcase its first 40-foot High Cube (HC) container (named Unit Two) with exceptional insulation properties and a revolutionary locking system at the fair. The new 40ft (HC) container complements the existing fleet of 20 ft containers.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) aims to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 levels. To effectively support the industry in achieving this goal, the AELER container offers the following environmental benefits:
- 20% less CO2. The container is made from composite materials, giving it a much more robust structure compared to traditional containers. This allows it to carry more – for example, 28 tons of liquid goods in flexitanks compared to 24 tons in steel containers – so that our customers can achieve the same transport performance with 8 containers as they would with 10 traditional steel containers. This saving – when transporting liquid goods in flexitanks – corresponds to a concrete CO2 reduction of 20%. Additionally, the smooth sides of the container provide an aerodynamic exterior that contributes to a 4% reduction in fuel consumption during truck transport.
- Fewer empty containers. Today, 56% of all transported containers are empty. Thanks to our Container-as-a-Service model, we are reducing this number. A potentially massive improvement for the environment.
- Less waste. Traditionally, up to 300 kg of plastic material is used in containers to protect and insulate the transported goods. Due to the impressive insulation properties of an AELER container, the need for such single-use materials is eliminated – thus generating no waste.
Benefits for customers
Bulk liquids: Thanks to our 20-foot container composite walls, which allow for a 17% higher payload for flexitanks, it is now possible to load flexitanks up to a weight of 28 tons instead of the usual weight limit of 24 tons, without the container bulging.
Sensitive goods: The structural insulation of the containers leads to a significant reduction in temperature fluctuations during transport, eliminating the need for additional protective materials and avoiding associated costs and time losses. AELER also offers specific alternative protection solutions for certain applications such as chemicals, luxury goods, and food and beverages. Furthermore, the composite material walls significantly reduce water condensation on the interior walls of the container.
High-value goods: The proprietary IoT, with a special focus on security, allows all parties involved to track transport events, container position, as well as occurrences such as door openings and impacts in real-time.
CAAS – Container As A Service
AELER’s container rental service, Container As A Service (CAAS), provides customers with on-demand access to the company’s most advanced container technologies. With CAAS, renting an AELER container is simple, flexible, and worry-free. Customers can conveniently pick up their containers at one of the more than 50 depots in the company’s network and easily track the transport events through AELER’s interactive and user-friendly Control Tower platform. At the end of the transport assignment, customers simply return the container to a previously agreed depot, ensuring that containers are available anytime and anywhere.
