Austrian Post Introduces New Reusable Packaging Post Loop
22. July 2023The Hanseatic city of Lübeck, under the Lübeck Port Authority (LPA), has successfully adapted to the new large generation of RoRo ships in the Baltic Sea together with the Lübeck Port Company (LHG). Berth 5 at Scandinavia Quay is now in regular operation.
(Lübeck) In recent weeks, the 242-meter-long “Baltic Enabler” (6442 loading meters) from the Swedish shipping company Wallenius SOL and the 238-meter-long “Finneco 3” (5800 loading meters) from the Finnish shipping company Finnlines have docked at the new Berth 5 on a trial basis.
After the smooth handling of the large ships, regular operations have now commenced. The LHG expects to regularly receive the sister ship “Botnia Enabler” alongside the “Baltic Enabler”. Both ships operate on the route between the North Sea ports of Zeebrugge and Antwerp as well as Kokkola, Oulu, and Kemi (Finland), Skelleftea (Sweden), and Travemünde. The two sister ships are known as the largest ice-class units of this type in the world.
Finnlines Utilizes the Quay with Three Ships
Finnlines will use the new Berth 5 with a total of three ships operating on the Biscay route. In Finland, Finneco 1, 2, and 3 call at the ports of Helsinki and Kotka. All ships are considered particularly environmentally friendly in operation. Additionally, Berth 5 will receive a powerful shore power system by the end of the year, which can supply the ships with locally emission-free electricity during their layovers in Lübeck.
Berth 5 marks a milestone in the future-oriented development of Lübeck Port and the LHG. It can now handle ships up to 250 meters in length and 38 meters in width via a fixed ramp. Scandinavia Quay is regarded as one of the largest and most important ferry terminals in Europe.
