9. January 2024Vice President Freight Sales Gerald Lefold will hand over responsibility for Scandlines’ freight sales to Peter Leschly on February 1, 2024. Leschly brings extensive experience from various industries and has worked for some of the largest Danish IT and transportation companies.
(Hamburg) After 30 years at Scandlines, 10 of which he served as Head of Freight Sales, Gerald Lefold is retiring. Scandlines has appointed Peter Leschly as the new Head of Freight Sales, who brings experience from DSV, Maersk, and IBM.
Gerald Lefold began his career at the company as Line Manager Hansa Ferry in the then German Ferry Company Baltic Sea (DFO), which changed its name to Scandlines AG in 1998 following a merger between DFO and Scandlines Danmark A/S. In the following years, he was responsible for the freight-based routes to the Baltic States, Finland, and Sweden. After a brief stint at Stena Line from 2012 to 2013, he took over responsibility for Scandlines’ freight business in 2014, which has since experienced nearly 50 percent growth.
“New forces are now taking the helm, and I look forward to welcoming Peter Leschly soon. With our new emission-free freight ferry and the current focus on simplifying the journey for freight customers, I am confident that this area will continue to be crucial for our business. Gerald Lefold and his team have achieved impressive growth in our freight business over the past years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Gerald for his significant contributions and many years at Scandlines,” said CEO Carsten Nørland.
Smooth transition ensured

Peter Leschly
“I am very much looking forward to my new role at Scandlines and to further developing the solid foundation on which the freight business stands, together with the team,” said Peter Leschly. Gerald Lefold will remain in office temporarily to ensure a smooth handover of the department.
“I look back on many exciting years, experiences, and moments at Scandlines and would especially like to thank my team. Without my team, it would not have been possible to achieve the excellent results we have reached in recent years, and I leave with the conviction that this successful work will continue in the future,” said Gerald Lefold.

In addition to his role as Head of Freight Sales, Gerald Lefold is also a managing director of Scandlines Deutschland GmbH and BorderShops alongside Heiko Kähler. Following Gerald Lefold’s departure, Heiko Kähler will assume sole responsibility as managing director of the German companies.
