Goodyear Launches Drive Results Tour 2024
26. April 2024The transport and logistics company Gebrüder Weiss has expanded its logistics facility at the Dunaharaszti location near Budapest. The new logistics complex covers 10,000 square meters and includes office spaces, a transshipment hall, and a high-bay warehouse. This provides the logistics provider with additional storage capacity for its customers. Furthermore, all home delivery services for the Greater Budapest area will be consolidated from here. The investment volume amounts to approximately 25 million euros.
(Lauterach/Budapest) “The expansion in Budapest offers room for further growth in the future. The increasing industrial production, especially in the automotive and electronics sectors, is expected to lead to higher demand for transport and logistics services in the coming years,” explains Wolfram Senger-Weiss, Chairman of the Management Board of Gebrüder Weiss, at the opening on April 25, 2024. “We opened our first branch in Central Eastern Europe in Hungary back in 1989. Since then, the country has developed into an important hub for goods transport between our core markets in the Black Sea region, the Balkans, the Adriatic region, and Western Europe. Our Hungarian national organization is now a pioneer in terms of automation and sustainable transport.”

Existing Facility Also Modernized
As part of the expansion, the existing logistics facility has also been modernized. Storage, material flow, and order picking are now largely automated through the new AutoStore system. Goods are stored in plastic containers arranged in a frame system. Robots transport the containers to the workstations where the goods are picked for shipping.
“This saves space, time, and energy,” says Thomas Schauer, Regional Manager Central and Southeastern Europe at Gebrüder Weiss. “We achieve an additional efficiency boost in the utilization of trucks and containers. Cameras and 3-D scanners from Cargometer measure the packages while still on the forklift. With the data obtained regarding size and weight, we can optimize the use of cargo space.”
The majority of the energy required for buildings and electric vehicles is supplied by a photovoltaic system with a capacity of up to 354 kWp. “With the solar power, we operate delivery vehicles in the home delivery sector,” explains Balint Varga, Country Manager Hungary at Gebrüder Weiss. “With the electric transporters, we deliver online-ordered furniture, consumer electronics, and household appliances to end customers in Budapest and other major cities. This reduces CO2 emissions by around 12.5 tons per month.”
Present in Hungary Since 1989
Gebrüder Weiss has been present in Hungary since 1989 and today offers full-service logistics at six locations – in addition to Budapest, these are Győr, Zalaegerszeg, Pécs, Szeged, and Polgár – with 450 employees – from land transport to air and sea freight to warehousing. Further expansion is planned for 2026 in Győr, where a completely new logistics facility is to be built.
