Harder Logistics Breaks Ground for Logistics Hall in Neu-Ulm
20. September 2024TST is focusing on electric mobility and green energy generated from its own PV systems in transport logistics for the food company Danone. In Worms, the first electric truck from the logistics provider has been in operation for a few days, used for regional transport of mineral water and soft drinks for the food company.
(Worms) The Scania 45 R of the latest generation is the second fully battery-electric vehicle in the TST fleet. The electric truck serves routes for Danone in the Karlsruhe, Frankfurt, Bingen-Koblenz, and Rhein-Neckar areas and has a usable battery capacity of 468 kWh for a range of up to 400 km.
With a cargo volume of 26 to 30 pallets per load and a weight of 24.5 to 26.5 tons per transport, TST transports approximately 250 to 270 tons of natural mineral water and soft drinks (Volvic and evian) for the food company each week with each electric truck.
More Locations to Come
“With the deployment of electric trucks, we reduce CO2 emissions in our supply chains by around 90 tons of CO2 per year and vehicle,” reports Katrin Herda, Head of Energy Solutions and E-Mobility at TST. This corresponds to the average CO2 emissions of nine individuals per year in Germany. Over the course of the coming year, additional logistics locations of the TST Group in NRW, Lower Saxony, and Hamburg, as well as the connected delivery traffic, will be converted to the environmentally friendly e-mobility concept.
Since 2010, TST has been managing an area of 120,000 m² at the Waters Warehouse Worms for Danone and processes a high number of pallets daily in goods receipt and dispatch. The TST solutions for Danone include storage, packaging, repacking, and transport. Process steps such as depalletizing, scanning, cleaning, and drying of all beverage crates are highly automated and have been performed by robots since 2011. Additionally, the logistics hub in Worms has a rail connection for the delivery of goods; this also significantly contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
“Transport with electric trucks is another important step for us to achieve our CO2 reduction targets,” says Katharina Roth, Senior Transport Manager at Danone. The food company aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 35 percent worldwide by 2030 compared to 2020. “We can only achieve this with strong partners who sustainably support us in implementing our climate goals,” Roth adds.
Nationwide E-Charging Network
To provide customers with climate-neutral transport and contract logistics solutions, TST is establishing a nationwide e-charging network in cooperation with the Rheinhessen energy supplier EWR AG, powered by solar energy. The joint venture PVSM Energy, founded by the companies, will invest around 150 million euros in the next two years to build a nationwide charging and storage infrastructure.
