Registration for the “Logistics Day 2025” Now Open
Oct 4, 2024 at 5:58 PMTogether with its partners, the online retailer Galaxus, part of the Swiss Migros Group, laid the foundation stone for a new logistics center in Neuenburg am Rhein. The first warehouse is expected to be completed by summer 2025. They are looking for 1,000 employees. This is the largest settlement in Neuenburg am Rhein since the 1960s.
(Zurich/Neuenburg am Rhein) “It is the largest commercial settlement in Neuenburg since the 1960s,” said Neuenburg’s mayor Jens Fondy-Langela during the groundbreaking ceremony for the first of two new Galaxus warehouses. The move to Neuenburg is also of great significance for Digitec Galaxus and its subsidiary Galaxus Deutschland. With around 90,000 square meters of warehouse space and 1,000 employees, the site will be similar in size to the largest logistics center in Switzerland, located in Wohlen.
In front of around 50 guests, Michael Stolle, COO of Digitec Galaxus, explained why the move to Neuenburg became necessary: “As we are growing strongly in both Switzerland and Germany, we need more space. And since the Swiss procedures in Rafz and Utzenstorf will take a bit more time, our project in Neuenburg has top priority.” In February, Galaxus had already announced the new location. Michael Stolle: “Neuenburg is ideally located for us: From here, we can quickly deliver to Switzerland with our logistics partners, but also to Germany or France. The products that Galaxus sells usually arrive via the ports in northern Europe. On the journey of these products to Switzerland, Neuenburg is on the way.”
Recruitment Starts in Summer 2025
In addition to visitors from the project partners and Mayor Fondy-Langela, representatives from the neighborhood, the district, and the media were also present. Because Galaxus will not only be looking for staff in the small town of Neuenburg but also in the French region of Mulhouse, which is only a 20-minute drive away and represents the geographically closest major city with over 100,000 inhabitants. Neuenburg’s location directly on the Rhine and the A5 motorway allows commuting from the entire western southern Baden region, from Freiburg to Lörrach, Müllheim, Schopfheim, or Bad Krozingen.
A building permit is also in place for the second hall that Galaxus wants to rent in Neuenburg. However, this is still subject to environmental protection considerations. But all signs point to green for the start of the second hall as well.
Galaxus Continues to Invest in European Business and New German Headquarters
Last month, the Migros Group, majority owner of Digitec Galaxus, approved the corresponding budget for four more years for Galaxus Deutschland. In the spring, Migros had put all strategic business areas of the group to the test – including the European expansion of Galaxus. The analysis of the strategy has shown that the targeted further development of the online business in the European market is promising.
Almost simultaneously, Galaxus Deutschland moved into a new office in Hamburg. Three times more space, direct subway connection, rooftop terrace: Galaxus has left the Hamburg district of Altona and has been greeting from the centrally located district of Hoheluft-Ost since September 20. The online retailer has outgrown its previous German headquarters in Altonaer Schützenstraße.
