New Management at Contract Logistics Provider Simon Hegele
19. September 2025The logistics service provider Fiege strengthens its presence in Austria. An additional logistics center of the over 150-year-old family business has been established in a central location adjacent to the existing Fiege branch in Vienna. On Thursday, the new building was officially opened in front of around 100 invited guests.
(Greven/Vienna) The contract logistics provider Fiege has completed its new logistics center in Vienna. With the modern property, realized on the former Unilever production site at 7 Haidequerstraße, the family business from Westphalia’s Greven doubles its logistics area in the Austrian capital and sustainably strengthens its presence in the Alpine Republic.
Thomas Steinhart, district leader of the 11th district of Vienna, Simmering, said at the inauguration ceremony: “Just under a year ago, we celebrated the topping-out ceremony at this site. Back then, one could only guess what the logistics center would look like once it was finished. Standing here now and celebrating the opening is a beautiful moment for Fiege, but also for the district of Simmering. I am pleased that Fiege has decided to invest sustainably in the Vienna-Simmering location and to continue growing here. Congratulations on the completion of the new logistics center.”
Logistics is a Pillar of Our Economy
Dr. Ewa Samel, member of the Vienna State Parliament and city councilor, emphasized in her greeting: “Logistics is not only a central part of our lives but also a fundamental pillar of our economy and thus the backbone of every city. I am therefore very pleased about the clear commitment of the family business Fiege to the Vienna location and warmly congratulate the entire team on the inauguration.”
Peter Scherbel, board member of the Fiege Group, stated: “When we started our business in Austria in 1998, we probably would not have believed that a good quarter of a century later we would open such a great new location in the heart of Vienna. I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved who contributed to this project and made our location expansion possible. We can be very proud of our new logistics center here in Vienna. The new building represents a milestone for the entire Fiege Group – and it opens up the great opportunity to offer our customers in Austria efficient logistics solutions, maximum flexibility, and above all long-term growth opportunities in an exceptional top location.”
The brownfield project was implemented by Fiege Real Estate. The new two-story multi-user center provides over 20,000 square meters of additional logistics space for customers in the areas of consumer products, industry, fast-moving consumer goods, fashion, and healthcare, and meets the highest sustainability standards. Joachim Stern, managing director of Fiege Austria, said: “As with all Fiege construction projects, we have also placed a focus on sustainability here.”
Designed for Diverse Automation Options
The new logistics center, compliant with EU taxonomy, has been built to high energy standards and features a PV system on the roof, meeting the Gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB), Stern highlighted. “In addition, the location is designed for diverse automation options and offers our customers the best conditions for smooth logistics – from classic warehousing to transport services to value-added services. And we are very pleased that after the construction phase, things are finally getting underway in our new warehouse.”
